Bump!
Already donated more then that. ;-)
Or, join me in giving an automatic monthly gift via plastic.
Well done.
BTTT
I agree with both of you on the bashing, the people who constantly tell us what is wrong are a dime a dozen. The people who recognize what is wrong, then work to find and implement solutions are valuable and will be remembered.
Early in my career I worked for a guy had a rule, don’t come to me griping about something until you have researched it and have thought “long and hard” about a solution.... always remembered that.
“I’m not a Freeper insider or moderator. Just a cantankerous old curmudgeon who calls em like he sees em.”
Then perhaps fundraising and influencing people is not your forte and you should leave it to people who are better suited for it. There may be a reason you don’t see this technique used for people responsible for fundraisers.
I got tired of the Ron Paul bashing last year. Apparently some people overlook the "roll" part of "roll back decades of governmental largesse," forgetting that in order to roll something you have to start by pushing it in generally the correct direction.
Monthly donor, here. But I’ll add that everyone should kick in a few extra bucks as a THANK YOU to MA for firing the loudest shot to date!
Go, Scott Brown! :)
I stand corrected if there’s a donor list that nosy parkers could go and check on someone’s contribution.
BUT when I went to your link I got a webpage that indicated it was ‘secure’ and it never opened up AND NAVIGATION WAS CANCELED so maybe Jim has got it protected.
My purpose wasn’t to humiliate anyone but to galvanize some folks who’ve been ‘meaning to’ or haven’t given a thought about their personal obligation to help keep this operation going.
To any anonymous Freeper out there who feels humiliated my deepest apologies. Now go remove the source of your humiliation by donating. It will improve your fragile psyche no end.
Great advice Peter! Out of 50 responses you are my best critic (out of two).
I want to go to school on your technique and see how it works since you’re better suited for influencing people. I AM an amateur without any experience in motivationg folks.
Just give me a FR post you’ve made to ask for donations —or another URL for a fundraiser you’re responsible for if you haven’t done anything for FR.
It’s the implication that people are ‘cheapskates’ if they don’t give when many people are worried about the next paycheck. No harm, no foul....got your drift and all that...
Now I think I’ll have a shot of brandy in my coffee to mellow my crabby *ss out :)
Trying to make my quarterly donation, but none of the donation links are coming up. Will try againin a couple of hours.
Not a fundraiser but have seen many online and TV, non use your tactics (there may be a reason), they are the ones to look at for guidance.
Thank you JimRob and Free Republic!
BUMP for all FReepers and Lurkers who love this place to show their support!
I naturally blamed the slow state on linking to my trusty computer, but might try again.
I do remember a very interesting way of tracking contributions on FR. This could not offend anyone. The mods put on the amounts pledged/contributed State by State and even country by country. Some pretty amazing donor countries out there.
I got a Canadian money order in US funds and had some bad experiences with the UK and sterling funds (Some charged fifty percent fee to the recipient). I was pleased to see the clearing bank was surprisingly in California, to clear my money order. Never knew there was a Concord in CA, I do now.
I don’t think the public list of donor names includes the names, or screen names, of everyone who contributes.
I don’t think everyone wants their names on it. It’s enough for Jim to know that we contribute.
I haven’t looked lately; but, my screen name hasn’t been on the list although I contribute. I may have included my screen name in my snail-mail contribution letter at some point; but, I haven’t in a long time. It’s enough for me to know that FR got my contribution, and they are always gracious in sending me a card thanking me for it.
p.s. I always enjoy checking the thread to see when my donation is received and added to my state’s tally too!
Thanks for the clarification and I am glad to concur. I just would not want to know who does contribute and who does not. This could lead to, say a very controversial poster, as in the birth certificate issue, being roundly hammered as a "free loader" if they never contributed. This would not add anything to any reasoned discourse.
