Death Warrant Signed for Mt. Lebanon Spree Killer (Ed Rendell signs execution papers)

An execution warrant for a former Mt. Lebanon attorney convicted of killing five people during a hate-fueled shooting spree through Allegheny and Beaver counties was signed Tuesday by Gov. Ed Rendell.

Richard Scott Baumhammers, 44, was sent to death row after being convicted in 2001 of five counts of first-degree murder and one of attempted murder for the April 28, 2000, slayings.

Baumhammers, who is incarcerated at the State Correctional Institution in Greene County, is scheduled to die by lethal injection on March 18.

First off, I must say this guy deserves the death penalty as much as anyone can. He randomly shot and killed five people, apparently for the sole reason that none of them were white. He also shot and paralyzed an Indian grocer who died of complications a few years later.

I do note however that he is a) being held in the same prison as Mumia Abu Jamal, and that b) Fast Eddie Rendell has set a March 18 execution date, which would be just shy of 10 years after the event.

With Mumia we're closing on on 30, with no end in sight. Very interesting.

Lesko, Travaglia and Mumia all have one thing in common.
They killed cops. Perhaps that’s what causes all of the lawyahs out there to get their hackles up and spend every last ounce of energy keeping them alive?
