The only Thunderbird pilot lost in the VIetnam war conflict was discovered and is coming home. Maj Russel Goodman was shot down in his F4 by a SAM while on a bombing run over Hanoi.

After a ceremony at Nellis AFB, his remains will come home to Sterling, Alaska, where the family will spread his ashes across the land he loved.

May the good Lord rest his soul and bring his family peace with the return of this aviator warrior, husband and father.

Soldier rest, Gently pressed,
To the calm, Mother Earth's
Waiting breast;
Duty done, Like the sun:
Going West.

SEMPER FI SOLDER, GOD BLESS YOU

Wow. Christine was only 10 years old at the time of the accident. Now as an adult...she understands it all and at the same time can finally lay her sorely missed dad to rest. God bless you young woman and I KNOW your dad KNOWS what you are doing for him and then to have his ashes scattered in the land he loved...well, I am speechless on that. Rest in Peace Major Goodman...you are a hero and we thank you for your service. God bless the family.

Just to make a small point, being shot down by a SAM is not called an accident.
The family (here) is tickled to have a chance to end the mystery and bring Dad home.
