It's Time to Junk the Electoral College We don't need an amendment to do it. (Soros' son)
Washington Times ^ | 12/18/08 | Jonothan Soros

By JONATHAN SOROS (Georgie's son)

In his victory speech, Obama said he would be a president for all Americans. But as a candidate he didn't campaign with equal vigor for every vote. Instead, he and John McCain devoted more than 98% of their television ad spending and campaign events to just 15 states which together make up about a third of the U.S. population. Today, as the Electoral College votes are cast and counted state-by-state, we will be reminded why. It is the peculiar mechanics of that institution, designed for a different age, that leave us divided into red states, blue states and swing states. That needs to change.

The Electoral College was created in 1787 by a constitutional convention whose delegates were unconvinced that the election of the president could be entrusted to an unfiltered vote of the people. It was antidemocratic by design.

Fortunately, a constitutional amendment is not necessary. Rather than dismantling the Electoral College with an amendment, we can use the mechanisms of the Electoral College itself to guarantee popular election of the president.

It is ironic that the most common objection to the National Popular Vote compact is the suggestion that it is antifederalist. In fact, interstate compacts lie at the very core of federalism: individual states combining their powers to solve a problem.

The National Popular Vote compact has already been enacted by four trailblazing states -- Maryland, New Jersey, Illinois and Hawaii -- and has been introduced in 41 others. It's time that the rest of them got on board.

Mr. Soros is the deputy chairman of Soros Fund Management and a supporter of the National Popular Vote.

Look for the National Popular Vote Movement to be pushed before 2012.

Mr. Jonathan Soros has obviously never lived in the despotic nations that his father left behind with 4 digit inflation: Poland, Eastern Europe, Africa etc.

Those are country without an electoral college, where Despotic politicians can win by campaigning, or simply committing electoral fraud, in one major capital. It happened all the time in the South American country I grew up in.

Perhaps electoral fraud is what the Soros family in now in pursuit of. I give the Soros family credit for being so shameless-I mean bold, in their endless pursuit of influence peddling, given their father's dubious history.

Just google Soros and drugs, the results are facsinating.

Right on...last thing we need is some lefty teling us how to run things.
The EC was another thing the founding fathers knew would be needed. they were very good at things like that.

The National Popular Vote is not fair as most states might as well stay home as their votes would count about as much as a hill a beans in a potato chip factory

This is how voter fraud can be implemented, and what we have to watch out for.

Someone will be along shortly to tell you that it will never happen. Never mind the fact that more and more states are enacting the interstate voting compact as a means to sidestep the constitution.

If not the rats will repeal it.

I’m against this nonsense for the same reason I am against popular voting electing senators. Senators were suppose to represent the individual state’s interests and House representatives the people. The electoral college is another check against federal power.

The Electoral College system is the one reason we have not slipped into total socialism.

ALL ELECTIONS would be decided by the vast number of welfare urban dwellers sucking off the productive rural if the Electoral College was no longer used to decide Presidential elections. In other words a democrat POTUS for life

Your vote would be meaningless if you lived outside the nine largest demographic areas of this country all which happen to be large democrat/liberal enclaves

The Dems’ effort to permanently ensure that politicians from CA and NY have complete hegemony over the American people.

The interstate voting compact is particularly insidious as a constitutional sidestep. It creates electoral blocks where the people in individual states will vote as normal but thier electoral vote will go with the majority of thier member states.

If illinois, Indiana, and Michigan go democrat but Ohio goes republican, the Ohio electoral votes will go democrat even if Ohio citizens vote 90% republican.

They see this as an easier way to steal elections and not spending money moving people from place to place to take each state as they did in 2008.

As for this Natioal Popular Vote Movement, the push has been quietly taking place state by state to push for a Constitutional Amendment to end the Electoral College.

We do “NOT” want “MOBACRACY”. The Founding Father’s never wanted a Pure Democracy because people like the lefties know how to stir up the MOBS. The Marxist can “NOT” be allowed to completely dismantle the Constitution. Their interpretation is wrong, but to be allowed to dismantle the Constitution through the Constitutional process is unacceptable.

The Liberal Globalists do not like the Electoral College because they have to campaign outside of the East and West Coast....they hate “Flyover Country”

The really sick part is....a lot of GOP support Soros...on a lot of issues (Free Trade, Globalism, International Finance)...and I would not be surprised that GOP...and faux-con talk show hosts....support the Soros idea to do away with Electoral College

The Electoral College system is the one reason we have not slipped into total socialism.

The State of Washington provides a great example. Most of the state is moderate to conservative, except for King County. The liberals use legal and illegal means to provide the differences in state wide races.

You're exactly right. With a "Popular Vote", all politians would have to do is win New York, California, Florida, and one other populous state, to win the "Popular Vote". With the Electoral College, it gives each state a vote and a voice. Our founding fathers knew what they were doing.

Unfortunatly, so do those who want to destroy our nation. Soros is no Kennedy. He makes Kennedy look like a Boy Scout. Soros is the guy that bought and paid for Kennedy and his entire Democrat party.

Soros is increasingly infecting the GOP. Things like presenting both sides of a drug legalization debate at CPAC are how he works.

Same here in Michigan. The state votes the way Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing and a few other urban centers decide. Out of 83 counties in Michigan, less than 10 are consistent democrat leaning counties.
