No, no, no...different standard for Lott than Reid. After all, by definition (he’s a Republican) Lott was a racist.

IIRC, Chris Dodd made remarks about “Sheets” Byrd, similar to those that Trent Lott made about Strom Thurmond at his 100th birthday party. Lott’s remarks had absolutely NOTHING to do with racism; any racisim was inferred by his critics. However, he was forced to give up his position as Majority Leader, and attempts were made to force his resignation. Dodd? Nary a peep. The difference? Lott has an “R” after his name; Dodd, a “D”.
