A Democratic lawmaker lost his committee vice chairmanship on Friday after he welcomed Gov. Bill Ritter's decision not to run for re-election.

Casso said "As with most of his decisions in the last four years, the governor is a day late, a dollar short, and without regard except for his own well being and interests."

Democratic House Speaker Terrance Carroll refused to comment on whether the comments prompted him to remove Casso from the vice chairman's seat.

Wow! Such discipline.

Are we talking about the democrat party or some party much further to the East?

His comments were the talk of the Capitol, and even Republicans were taken aback.

“I hope my crocodile tears don’t flow too much, or you might actually think I will miss the governor,” Casso said, in a news release Wednesday, the same day Ritter announced he wouldn’t run again because public service was taking a toll on his family.

This is what happens to “mavericks” in the Dem party.

I don’t suppose it’s for us to cheer him. According to the Denver Post article he was PO’d at the governor for not supporting his measures for more union schwag.

hehe.

Popcorn time. I must admit I thought a ‘pub had said it after reading just the headline. Maybe Gov. Rotter will resign in a snit over this.

Paging Mr. Gingrich.

From what I understand from Coloradans he couldn’t have won again if he ran.

Ritter is toast.

Many in his own party hate him.

Ritter should have re-run to take his beating like a man.

Ritter was way down in the polls. Unless McInnis was caught getting a Lewinsky in the Capitol rotunda he was likely going be elected.

He still outpolls Hickenlooper, however, just not by as much.

Ritter vetoed a bill that essentially would have made Colorado a closed union shop state. Labor has wanted that for decades and finally had an all-Democrat government in place to do it. So, that's why this guy is bitter.

This shows shows the split between pro-business and pro-labor Democrats. If Hickenlooper is the guy, then he will be asked his position on this issue. However he answers will alienate one faction or the other.

For what it’s worth, Peter Boyles has been on Ritter’s case almost daily: 5-9:00 AM on KNOW. Maybe CO Democrats cannot get away with everything after all.
