I can see it falling in altitude, but not moving directionally across the globe. Is the falling cold air creating the high pressure near the ground due to increased density ? That higher pressure then in turn moves the air out laterally ? I thought the Polar Air had very little density ? For example, my Grandmother had grown up in Detroit her whole life. She came out to visit here in Southern California and one night along the coast she felt colder then she ever had in her entire life. Something about that highly humid (dense) night time cold air along a coast. Very difficult to get the air over the Ocean to cool. It has a high heat holding capacity. And conversely when it is cold it can suck the heat right out of you.
And just to make it interessting, the Earths gavity is also weaking...
Naw. That would mean that Im losing weight without dieting or exercising.
It’s only a very small amount - not enough to notice on a scale - further the area of weaking is in south eastern atlantic - so you are safe... for the moment. :)
Of course, weaking gravity also means it is easier for things to grow larger than otherwise....
The article didn’t really explain how this is tied to SUVs. I’m disappointed.
Hope this puts cap and trade on ice.
It should ice Cap and Trade, but we have a corrupt government so anything is possible. It wont stop the AGW crowd. They are already jumping up and down because the polar region warmed up due to the Arctic Air masses moving south. Apparently slowing the Sea Ice recovery. They are gonna have a hard time convincing people running out of winter supplies that they need to worry about polar ice levels.
Great thread
So you are saying we're heading into a War of 1812!
OMG!
To arms! To arms!
Warm air is less dense, hence it will rise, cold air is more dense and will settle to earth....
Sounds like you are referring to very upper air. Near the stratosphere where the flow is more vertical (north/south). I remember reading about those during the old Ozone Hole debates. I am basically referring to the low level air that primarily moves west to east in our latitudes. The jet streams I think reside above the low level winds and below the stratosphere movements.
