Sen. John McCain of Arizona is the most influential player in the Republican Party, according to a new Harris Poll out Thursday.

Sixty-four percent of the 2,276 adults surveyed nationwide said McCain is influential in steering the direction of the Republican Party, a 14-percentage-point edge over his closest rivals: former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and radio host Rush Limbaugh, both of whom were rated as influential by 50 percent all of those polled.

Even among just the Republican polled, McCain ran away from the field, getting picked by 68 percent. Only former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was also picked as influential by at least 60 percent of Republicans.

Among just Republicans, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was selected as the third most influential, getting picked by 59 percent. Gingrich placed fourth with 57 percent, while Limbaugh and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani tied for fifth with 56 percent.

Only 31 percent of Republicans polled said Michael Steele, the party’s national chairman, is influential within the GOP.

That’s exactly what I was going to say! No way in hell is he the leader of the GOP. He’s probably the second most despised Goper by the GOP! The most despised being light loafers Lindsey, of course.

This is garbage push poll by the MSM and left wing Dems. They know if a true conservative candidate steps up and leads the Dems and the Left are in big trouble.

You will see more of this in the coming days.

So, they questioned RINOs about who leads the party. Obviously.

"Sixty-four percent of the 2,276 adults surveyed nationwide said McCain is influential in steering the direction of the Republican Party"

Hence the formation of the National Tea Party.

Between these two and McCain’s little dog Linseed Graham (and GWB’s end of term idiocy), we have trillions in debt, BIG Government Health Care, TARP, bailouts, gay marriage, taxpayer funded abortion, cap and tax global warming, and soon to be amnesty for illegal aliens (an endless supply of new democrat voters), followed by world class Marxism with conservatism left wandering in the wilderness for the next 40 years or more.

These people are not Republicans!

This was a poll of the Rockefeller Society during an Obamao fan club meeting. The real question was: Who should Republicans support to assure another victory for the thugocracy and Obamao? Of course, there is no point in throwing away a sure thing. Go with McCain.

It appears they questioned 2,276 "adults." Not just Republicans, not just registered voters, not just likely voters, not just RINOs, not just Democrats, but presumably all of the above as long as they were 18 or older.

Not that I pay attention much, but are polls often published of who random "adults" gage as the leader of the Democrat party? Or do pollsters quiz strictly Democrats for the answer to that question?

I think minimally informed "adults" in America would naturally view the most recent Republican presidential candidate as the "leader" of the Republican party, and would answer thus on a poll.
