Sen. Ben Nelson, the Nebraska Democrat who played a pivotal role in helping the Senate pass its version of health care reform right before Christmas, said this week that the Obama administration should have delayed taking up the issue to spend more time tackling economic problems.

Sen. Ben Nelson, the Nebraska Democrat who played a pivotal role in helping the Senate pass its version of health care reform right before Christmas, said this week that the Obama administration should have delayed taking up the issue to spend more time tackling economic problems.

"I think it was a mistake to take health care on as opposed to continuing to spend the time on the economy," Nelson told the Fremont Tribune.

"I would have preferred not to be dealing with health care in the midst of everything else, and I think working on the economy would have been a wiser move," he told the newspaper.

Ever since Nelson provided Democrats with the crucial 60th vote to advance the Senate bill toward passage last month, he has been trying to explain his actions to his constituents -- a move that underscores the challenge Nelson faces in maintaining public support in a conservative state.

If Senator Nelson thought it was such a mistake to do this horrible scheme at this time then he should have voted against it!

‘Me thinks’ Nelson is speaking out of both sides of his mouth again... typical politician... delivering remarks intended for his more conservative audience back home!

Unless the further destruction of the US economy is one of your goals.

Nelson’s done his part. He can just go away now.

And, if Nelson really thinks it’s a mistake, the best way he can think of to correct it is..............to vote for it.

Makes sense in a socialist, dim-witted, party-line hack sort of way.......

The fact that Nelson is already kissing the conservative and moderate ass of his constituency so soon tells me he sees the depth of the damage he did to his political career in NE.

Say goodnight, Senator. You’re done.

“One thing I’ve found in Congress is that if there is no urgency, things don’t get done. Leadership always has an urgency,” he said. “Deadlines and crises are the very nature of how legislation passes.

“In this case, it was so public for so long, with all the anger and all the town hall meetings and all the coverage that this kept getting, that’s why I think everybody’s felt rushed, because they set a number of different deadlines and didn’t meet them. I think it was unwise in retrospect,” he said.

Nelson said by insisting on certain changes before casting his vote he “took a bad bill and made it better.” He pointed out aspects of the Senate’s bill he said will benefit Nebraska, and called the “Cornhusker Kickback” a “sideshow” that’s gotten too much attention.

(snip)

Public reaction to the bill has been positive, Nelson said, contradicting Rasmussen Poll numbers.

“You have people totally stirred up with misinformation and confused,” Nelson said.

“The poll showed that 50 percent are Democrats that didn’t support the plan,” he said. “That’s hard to believe, that’s really hard to believe. It might be possible but it just doesn’t seem quite right. I don’t really give a lot of credibility to that particular poll.

“I’d have to say that nine out of ten people that come up to me thank me,” he said.

Senator Ben “Dover” Nelson, sir:

Just ‘cause Obummer made a mistake don’t mean you didn’t make one. You’re up for election. Let’s focus on YOUR mistake, Benedict Arnold “thirty pieces of silver” Nelson.

What Nelson did was stupid, but to see him whining ,and crying ,and not standing up for what he did , like a man ,is even more sickening.

What a cowardly useless piece of slime this man is.

My advice to voters in his state is to get flush this piece of excrement as soon as possible.
