In what is being touted as 'jihadi rehab,' al Qaeda terrorists newly released from Guantanamo prison or caught on the streets of Iraq before their suicide bombs could explode are putting finger paints and crayons to paper in order to secure their freedom.
The Saudi government, which is running the rehabilitation program on a former royal family retreat outside Riyadh, claims that some 700 former al Qaeda terrorists have been reprogrammed.
The coloring, said program founder Dr. Awad Alyami to his terrorists-turned-art-students, gets "negative energy out on paper." "It's safe here," Alyami said. "It's on the paper, it's not outside." The men also get religious re-education and are promised a new home and car if they behave.
But 'jihadi rehab' is drawing great skepticism from U.S. critics, who caution that actions speak louder than words.
Former FBI agent and ABC News consultant Brad Garrett said that while the men may claim to disavow radical Islam, "they basically schmooze or con their way out of the system, and then they get out."
After Said Ali- al-Shihri completed the art therapy program after being released from Guantanamo, he turned up in Yemen as a top al Qaeda leader and was responsible for an attack on the U.S. embassy there last year that left 17 people dead, including one American, U.S. officials said.
This case shows that "you never know when somebody is a true believer," said former CIA officer and ABC News consultant John Kiriakou. "Now they may go through the motions like any other prisoner might, only to pretend to be rehabilitated" and rejoin the fight, said Kiriakou.....

Our country is domed!
Um, I think you mean “doomed.”
Madness.
Hey, maybe the families of the 911 bombers can claim the attack was performance art and demand an NEA grant?
Anybody still doubt that liberalism is an incurable mental illness?

Predictable Art Therapy: Two Released Gitmo Terrorists Behind Flt 253 Attack
Absolutely no one with a brain should be surprised that the Bush-Obama Gitmo Terrorist Catch & Release program is behind the Christmas Day Northwest Airlines Flight 253 attack by Islamic terrorist Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.
Yes, its true. The latest news is that two released Guantanamo Bay detainees were masterminds of Fridays attempt to blow up the plane and murder hundreds of passengers headed for Detroit. Plenty of released Gitmo terrorists have returned to terrorist activity. So, why wouldnt they also be involved in hijackings and explosions of planes?
Well, I guess that New Age psychobabble art therapy really worked, huh?:
Two of the four leaders allegedly behind the al Qaeda plot to blow up a Northwest Airlines passenger jet over Detroit were released by the U.S. from the Guantanamo prison in November, 2007, according to American officials and Department of Defense documents.
American officials agreed to send the two terrorists to Saudi Arabia where they entered into an art therapy rehabilitation program and were set free, according to U.S. and Saudi officials.
Guantanamo prisoner #333, Muhamad Attik al-Harbi, and prisoner #372, Said Ali Shari [DS: Also spelled, Said Ali Al Shiri], were sent to Saudi Arabia on Nov. 9, 2007, according to the Defense Department log of detainees who were released from American custody. Al-Harbi has since changed his name to Muhamad al-Awfi.
Both Saudi nationals have since emerged in leadership roles in Yemen, according to U.S. officials and the mens own statements on al Qaeda propaganda tapes.
Both of the former Guantanamo detainees are described as military commanders and appear on a January, 2009 video along with the man described as the top leader of al Qaeda in Yemen, Abu Basir Naser al-Wahishi, formerly Osama bin Ladens personal secretary.
Oh, and heres the money quote:
Saudi officials concede its program has had its failures but insist that, overall, the effort has helped return potential terrorists to a meaningful life.
