Terror Test-Runs on Airlines? (Describe Test Runs Over the Years)

After my article on the biazarre incident on AirTran Flight 297 was published, one reader going by the initials VHG said something that immediately caught my attention.

--snip-- Two possibilities that come immediately to mind are either that these incidents are orchestrated as a ploy to create a scenario to litigate for profit like the imams from US Airways Flight 300 -- or something more sinister is in the works. In the aftermath of Fort Hood, can we afford to ignore warning signs of abnormal or pattern behavior any longe

this whole Nigerian bomber incident reminds me of when the PLO took hostages in the Israeli embassy in Bangkok (early 1970’s) as a screen for a more sinister plan—to blow up Golda Meir’s plane as it landed in Rome.

the PLO released the hostages without negotiations and the Mossad realized that something else was in the air.

perhaps that is the case here—send a “patsy” to blow up a plane, divert tons of intel resources to study the failed case all the while putting the plans in motion for the “real” attack.

I agree. If he was able to get that liquid aboard a plane, imagine how easy it is to get it aboard a TRAIN?

Perhaps all this nonsense moving about the plane and causing disruptions are intended to create a profile. The profile wouldn’t include a lone bomber who stays in his seat, travels alone and acts alone.

The problem is that we’re not willing to take away people’s rights with absolute authority and without compensation. If we were willing to do so, we could stop these types of incidents. On the other hand... isn’t that the same thing you complain about when done to you?

Those that hate America really would like for us to take the bait and start discriminating against their people. Then they can tell them “See, we were right all along. Americans hate you.” This divide is what they need to get more minions for their war on the West.

I’m not sure of the answer, I’m just posing the problem. It does appear if you’re going to be a melting pot (or stew), you’re going to have to continue to deal with these issues.

So what if they do? It's not like they are going away with Obama bowing and scraping to them. They see both parts as weakness - not standing up to them and our capitulation to their whines.

Until we stand up for ourselves we are lost.

I already scratched planes off my list of transportation modes and now it’s trains. Can’t afford a ticket on either one so it’s no inconvenience.

Why haven’t the airlines installed security cameras in each airplane? Seems to me that would be a lot less expensive in the long run than the cost of litigation.

“Profiling would help.”

I agree with you.

It would help in the short term, but ultimately it won’t be your solution. So if someone is Muslim, we’ll say they are not allowed to fly to the US (or inside the US). Would that solve our problem?

This last one was black, but Muslim. How about the white Muslim converts we have that have been linked to terror in the Virginia area? How do you identify Muslims who dress like you and talk like you? Who is left? Only Asians can fly?

How about McVeigh? Should I not be allowed to buy fertilizer or rent u-haul trucks since I’m white (or whatever faith he claimed)?

Trust me on this, I’m not saying I have the answers. If I did, I would have been a billionaire by now selling my ideas to the government or selling books on ways to prevent Islamic terrorism to corporations.

My solution (which isn’t feasible) is isolationism. That has proven not to work either. The inevitable answer will be a major worldwide catastrophe (war, disease, loose nukes, etc.) that drops the population by several billion and allows more elbow room and cuts down on resources needed. Since time has begun, we have proven that we “can’t all just get along”.

All good points but I am not saying profile just for religion. I am sure law enforcement could find other traits to profile. Maybe some of our resident experts could give other examples. I think everybody would agree that if the guy’s father was worried about him and he was on a no-fly list he should be thoroughly checked out.. Most importantly air lines should not give in to groups like CAIR and political correctness.

True, there was definitely a break down in the terror list. It needs to be fixed.

To err is human...
