Based on its estimated age, it was already a sapling when Columbus set sail for the new world....
Have some fun and stick a sign on it saying “Free Firewood - You Cut” one night.
I grew up in Mt.Pleasant, SC, just outside of Charleston. I love the old Live Oaks, each one is so different from the others. The street I lived on was lined with Live Oaks, all with Spanish Moss hanging down. I am sure that most of the trees were older than the country.
“Cool....this is the Cathedral Oak here in Lafayette, LA...”
Spectacular! thanks for sharing.
Pretty much a landmark in this area, lots of old, old pictures of it.
Hurricane Gustov split it just about down the center to the base.
It took a tree removal crew several weeks to remove it and grind the stump.
I estimate the trunk was approx 9'-10' across.
Have seen pictures of it from back in the mid 1800's and it was just a massive back then.
Still not used to not seeing it there.
