This is what happens when 50% of the voters pay no taxes and live on the productivity of the other 50%. Clearly their votes reflect their self interest.

Yes, but, the American people have been nominating and electing socialist-style candidates for a generation. The chickens are here to roost permanently. The American people don’t have a clue how to clean up the mess they have created.

No, there can be no recall of a member of the U.S. Congress. You can recall a city councilman or a mayor if it’s in your city charter, but not a member of the Washington, D.C. elite.

Yes, and even ol’ Herb let a little slip in by 1930.

Alright, let’s all head for the doctors and hospitals. We’ll start with a smaller government after the default. ;-)

YOU ARE RIGHT!

Socialism crept in 80 years ago. You’re looking at fascism.

Fine, there are people who slept through WW II, but they are irrelevant to national politics, always have been and always will be.

They vote. They're dangerously relevant.

re: It’s the first time in our nation’s history the government has made Americans buy something

IMHO, taxes are nothing more than forcing us to buy something, in that case whatever government is pushing at that particular time. Against my will they fund all sorts of things that I would never dream of supporting and they do it by taking the fruit of MY labor at gunpoint. And as if that weren’t bad enough, they force my employer to give them fruits of my labor before I ever see it, again at gunpoint.

I fear the only thing that will solve the problem of government is a complete and total breakdown of its funding system. And that is finally on the horizon as the deficit and debt grow larger by the hour.

Government has become a monster and the only way to control it is to starve it.

Sleeping people don't vote. The voters are not asleep. See Rasmussen if you have any doubts on the subject. Obama is headed for lame duck status before his second year is out. Economic recovery might give him a chance, but probably he is too damaged already.

Doom mongering is a dumb pastime and a form of self inflicted blindness. We lost one election because Bush was deeply unpopular, half of it quite unfairly and half of it because of clear policy mistakes (Rummy's go small, immigration, letting Lehman fail messy) and their real military and economic consequences. Nobody wanted the left's crap when they did so, and now that they see it they will not put up with it.

The American people have seen off every tyrant in modern history and they are not half the fools you (and every other self important doom monger) take them for. They have in fact done a heck of a lot more for the world than you have, and they will continue to do so.
