Steele: Supporters of health reform can expect 'pink slip' in 2010
The Hill ^ | 12/21/2009 | Michael O'Brien

Posted on 12/21/2009 1:02:15 PM PST by markomalley

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele promised on Monday political repercussion for lawmakers who support healthcare reform.

Steele said that the GOP would seek to ramp up pressure on centrist lawmakers who could still oppose the health bill in Congress, but said they would more likely face a "pink slip" from voters if they stick with the legislation.

"The fact that they have total disregard for the concerns and interests of the American people by pursuing this boondoggle of a healthcare bill," the party chairman said in a conference call on Monday. "I plan to have my foot on the throats of Democrats in this issue, and hold them accountable."

Steele said that pressure in the near term would amount to publicity for the bill's costs and other GOP clams about health reform's effects, as well as seeking to hold senators to pledges to have the bill available for 72 hours before a final vote.

But lawmakers who support the bill in the end "can look for the pink slip next year," Steele said.

"It's game on. Harry Reid: Take comfort," Steele said of the Senate majority leader, a Nevada Democrat who's expected to face a difficult reelection battle next fall. "You've got a lot of friends but you and your friends are going to be looking for work in January 2011."

"Guess what: you're going to have a lot more to fear and a lot more to explain over the next year when you get home," Steele said of lawmakers who support health reform. "Come next November, they'll speak. And they'll speak very loudly, and very clearly."

Empty threats.

Senator Cornyn is busy trying to get ‘moderate’ Republicans elected to Congress.

It is same old horse puckey, folks; people like Cornyn need to be shown the door, too.

Let’s see Steele put his money where his mouth is. The RNC should only field candidates who promise to repeal the health care monstrosity.

No pledge, no support from me, that’s for certain.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH, Michael Steele.

Stop telling us what we, the voters, already know we're going to do. Tell us instead what the GOP will do next year TO STOP AND REVERSE OBAMACARE.

Stop telling us the obvious, and stop selling T-shirts! DAMMIT, man the guns or STEP ASIDE for someone who will!!!

I'm starting a Senatorial “2010 Dead Pol Pool” looking for help filling in the names that every one thinks will be politically dead in 2010. I did put Robert Byrd on the list for obvious reasons.

Byron Dorgan
Chris Dodd
Harry Reid
Ben Nelson
Blanche Lincoln
Arlen Spector

They're not going to do squat, as usual.

I fear that elections - as we know them - are a thing of the past in America. They have become so rigged and dishonest, the 'guess who' party will win from now on, using OUR tax money to buy any election they want.

The obama gang has figured it out, they know all the loopholes to disasseble America and put it back together in Lenin's image...and they're doing it right before our eyes.

When fair and honest elections are gone, there is only one thing left and that is not going to be pretty.

I'm 64, and fortunate I got to live in a great America all these years, however, my children and grandchildren are not going to have that priviledge, I fear.

I certainly hope we have enough election clout to nip this coup in the bud next year, but the pressure needs to be brought to bear NOW. The dems seem to thinking Wayyyyyy ahead of us, and we've got to bone-up on our chess strategy.

If the Constiution won't stop them, then it's up to us.

This is good to hear. RINOs who p-ss on the Constitution should answer to their voters. I hope voters are equally as enthusiastic about doing away with the so-called “Conservatives” who still refuse to do anything about the Kenyan Hussein’s illegal usurpation of the office. The Constitution is the Constitution is the Constitution.

I certainly intend to make my voice heard; I will not vote for any representative who keeps blissfully believing that a Kenyan should be permitted to be President. Who will you be voting for - a conservative, or a RINO?

They’ll have a big job ahead of them -

they must undo the total flip and reversal of the founding of the country.

This bill changed our country from one founded in individual liberty to one that is collectivist in nature, where the individual is subservient to the collective which is under the direction of the ruling class.

Yes, the litmus test for me are candidates’ unequivocal desire to rescind this traitorous monstrosity of a bill. I don’t want to see any waffling or hesitation whatsoever.

McConnell is doing the same thing in the senator race to fill Bunnings seat in Kentucky. He will also pick who runs against Yarmuth in the congressional race in Louisville.

“Tell us instead what the GOP will do next year TO STOP AND REVERSE OBAMACARE.”
Well, if he was found to have taken the office illegally, the courts will have to make null and void every bill he has signed. There’s hope there. I doubt the GOP will pursue the issue though, as they’re as mired down in political correctness as the Democrats.

So far Sen Dorgan does not seem scared--- In the Zogby poll taken in November and Rasmussen poll taken last week, Dorgan was 20 points behind and it does not seem to have phased him a bit---- Rasmussen: Dorgan trailing in ND re-election bid by 22 points Hot Air (blog) - Ed Morrissey - ‎4 hours ago‎ Hoeven beats Dorgan by 15 points among women, a rather shocking prospect for Democrats, who rely on the gender gap each election. Can Republicans Retake the Senate in 2010? Wall Street Journal - Karl Rove - ‎Dec 10, 2009‎ Republicans want Gov. John Hoeven to run—he leads Democrat Sen. Byron Dorgan by 19 points in a matchup.
