Pelosi Signals Openness To Bill Without Public Option, Others Also Eye Possibilities
Medical News Today ^ | 18 Dec 2009 - | Lightman

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi signaled Wednesday that she is open to health care reform that doesn't include a public option, "a strong signal that Congress could agree on a plan early next year," McClatchy reports. "Asked if she could support a bill that didn't have the public option, Pelosi said, 'It depends on what else is in the bill.' Her attitude is similar to that of many others who've pushed a public option. The mantra now among top Democrats is to find areas of agreement on health care, put them in the bill, declare victory and work in the months and years ahead to fashion something broader. ... Pelosi urged looking at the areas of House-Senate agreement, such as barring insurers from charging consumers more or cutting off coverage because of pre-existing conditions, or requiring nearly everyone to obtain coverage" (Lightman, 12/16).

This was Obama's plan all along. Signal support for public option but never make it a requirement. The key was to get Reid and Pelosi to publically show strong support for it, then sell out the liberal progressives if need be. Since late summer MSNBC Ed Schulz has been saying he suspects the sellout.

What could kill it is if progressives figure out they have been betrayed.

The Bill has no chance in the House without the public option. The CBC has already began to express displeasure with 0. I still think this bill is ultimately dead.

Lets hope so. I never thought it would get past the House and posted that many times.....ouch. Still I am always optimistic, its pathological, but good for the spirits, which of course, come in very handy when I am wrong.

Unless they go nuclear and turn this into a 50 vote bill in the conference committee

The key is that the socialists want to get their dirty mits on 1/6 of the US economy.Once these pathological liars get their hands on it, it's theirs to destroy as they see fit.

Thats been Reid’s plan since day one;get 60 votes for cloture then go directly to the nuclear option. That will give 9 red state senators cover to vote against it and still pass.
Pelosi will pick and choose who can vote against this bill and who can’t.She rules with an iron fist and no democrat is going to cross her.

It has nothing to do with that. It’s electorial math. The Dems cannot get reelected with their base gone.

They are losing independants and they never had GOPers and electorially they cannot pass a bill nobody wants. If they believed they had the electorial math on this bill, they would have passed this back last spring. The fact is they are backed in a corner, and they looking for away to cut this loose and blame this on the GOP. How can they go to their base with all majorites and claim they cannot get the bill they want?

“It has nothing to do with that. It’s electorial math. The Dems cannot get reelected with their base gone.”

That’s why their going to rush through legalizing all the illegal immigrants in time for them to influence the election. They will also have the get out to vote in the poorer areas telling people to vote democrat if they want free healthcare. Their base will be there no matter what. They are not going to vote Republican. They will probably tell them that they can add everything they want into healthcare reform when they have a larger liberal majority.

This whole thing is a scam.

The Republicans are just as guilty as the Democrats for this BS show.

This is just a ‘round about way to f**k you all over. They spend, and spend, and spend, and when the house of cards begins to fall, they create elaborate ways to screw you out of more of your paycheck.

You sorry bunch of slaves.

What’s the latest on the sex-addicted golfer? Anybody know?

Either that, or the Abortion issue will kill it.

RE :”The Republicans are just as guilty as the Democrats for this BS show.

I like your thinking! You should see the number of hate pings I get for dissing republicans, just today.

I would correct that in saying Republicans are opposing democrats only because they are out of power. That is the best we can hope for now.

So appalled by and opposed to this “woman” am I, that were she to say tomorrow that Jesus is Lord, I’d almost want to become an atheist, because I don’t believe a word she says.

Like I always said, the final step is for Pelosi to join Reid and Obama in betraying liberal progressives (who are already very enraged.) Will the libs give in like sheep? Or will they help us destroy this bill (some conference bill anyway) and the Democrat party?? Stay tuned! This is not over yet.

Yeah, just like it’s DOA in the senate. I don’t trust ANYTHING these “people” say.

“That’s why their going to rush through legalizing all the illegal immigrants in time for them to influence the election.”

If they started a program tomorrow to legalize immigrants they still wouldn’t have enough through the process by next November. The gov’t runs slower than molasses, and getting those people into the system and registered just won’t happen.

At some point a few of the Dems will realize they have been backed into a corner and that there is no way they can recover from a shellacking next year unless they cut Reid and Pelosi loose.

I’m just not sure that enough of them will come to their senses in time.
