MEXICO CITY — Mexico's National Human Rights Commission says more than 5,000 Mexican migrants have died in deserts, rivers and mountains trying to reach the U.S. since 1994.

The commission says governments must do more to protect migrants from robbers, smugglers and others who seek to exploit them.

On the news this evening they were saying that something like 70,000 Mexicans have died because of the Drug War in Mexico since Calderon has been president. Many thousands have died because of swine flu.

Enforcing border security would go a long way to putting the robbers, smugglers and others who seek to exploit them (which I choose to define here as U.S. businesses who knowingly hire illegals in order to cheat the system, not to mention American workers and legal immigrants) out of business. The "coyotes" are bad dudes, but as long as there are plenty of open border opportunities, they'll continue to do business as normal.
