One name: Richard “Dick” Turban Durbin, Senator from IL.

Durbin was crowing that this would provide 3000 jobs for this dreary part of Illinois....3000 people for 100 terrorists! That kind of efficiency is why the federal government is 12 trillion dollars in the hole.

I don’t think that an hour and a half is far enough away from my home.

$45/100, a cost savings factor of about 3 million/year. Not much patronage in one little box, however.

I got the idea that the Standish locals were dead set against it.

Locating them in Standish sure would have put a damper on going to the casino. :)

Touching their feet on American soil grants them rights that you and I have. Will the Illinois prison be a military prison or a federal prison (country club)? Will they be guarded by soldiers or by guards? If its guards, there will be corruption and ineptitude. To say that the public will be safe is to assume too much.

If they are “prisoners” in the criminal sense, can they be denied visitors and good behavior privileges that are granted to other inmates? If those privileges are denied, would it be religious discrimination?

What a mess we are in!

Ain’t it the truth! I read somewhere that the jobs at the prison itself would not go to locals either. Those jobs will be in support of the prison. Whole new batch of federal employees will move into town and the locals will get squat. Hope they have guns and ammo to hold off the friends of the inmates who come to bust ‘em loose!

I go by that prison once a month on my way North to see my Mom. I think the town turned against it when they found out that the prison would essentially be “federalized” and the local guards wouldn’t be getting the jobs. Meanwhile, Jenny the Guv has been busy emptying the prisons throughout Michigan....

Local Chicago news showing the locals all saying they welcome their new neighbors. Saw one guy interviewed who is currently working as a guard, said he was going to lose his job because they are bringing in federal guards. He wasn’t happy about it.

Right now the only words you hear about opening an Illinois prison to terrorists is what a wonderful boost to employment this step will be. You do not hear how housing of terrorists in Illinois will bring with it the people who support their agenda. The town can also expect the opening of a mosque lead by an Imam sympathetic to their agenda. Those public safety professionals, unwilling to give political talking points, consistently confirm that the presence of a prison attracts a large number of camp followers.

The consequences of this move should not be pleasant. I am glad they did not choose the Lane County jail here in Eugene Oregon, even though the politicians seem unable to place a priority on finding the money needed to keep all the cells open.

That’s the same I heard from friends who had a big federal prison built near their town. It attracted all kinds of lowlifes. People who knew the inmates and settled in the area so they could visit more often. Brought gangs, crime and all that stuff with them....Don’t see why this will be any different.

Better yet, take that "value pack" of .22LR in the background for about $18 and hit 'em each 5 times.

You would still have 50 rounds left for some plinking after work :)
