Boxer's Opponents Capitalize On 'Ma'm' Exchange By KEVIN FREKING

WASHINGTON – The widely played video clip of U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer reprimanding a general for calling her "ma'am" is the gift that keeps on giving for the two Republicans hoping to challenge her next year.

Republicans Carly Fiorina and Chuck DeVore are trying to capitalize on the exchange by making it a key ingredient of their fundraising efforts and attempts to recruit grassroots support. Both campaigns say the video revs up a GOP base that already has long-standing animosity toward Boxer, among the most liberal members of the Senate.

Whether it will have currency beyond next June's Republican primary, when the winner will have to appeal to a much larger and more diverse audience, is an open question.

During a hearing last June, Boxer interrupted Brig. Gen. Michael Walsh of the Army Corps of Engineers in mid-sentence: "Do me a favor?" she said. "Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?' It's just a thing. I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it. Yes, thank you."

Boxer said the general was not offended by her remarks, but many in the GOP clearly were, including the two Republican challengers.

Former Hewlett-Packard chief executive Carly Fiorina thought the exchange was so memorable that it prompted her to create a Web site titled CallMeBarbara.com, which she uses to raise money and keep in touch with supporters.

boxir is too stoooopid to realize that all military will refer to women as Ma’am and it is a sign of respect. However as I said...she is too stooooopid to know that. If I ever have the unfortunate opportunity to speak with her...she will be called Ma’am whether she likes it or not only I will NOT use it as a sign of respect for her.

Won’t matter, they will re-elect her.

That's an interesting point. To address a piece of human garbage like Barbara Boxer in a respectful way does seem wrong. Addressing her as 'Senator,' which commands absolutely no respect from me (I'd rather be called a cockroach) just might be more appropriate.

I SO wish that the general had answered with something like, “Senator, do you think I got these stars out of a CrackerJack Box?” “Senator, I was commissioned a second lieutenant and had to WORK my way up to earn these stars.”

Dumber than a boxer ox. Fiorina may not be the whole package, but she would be an order of magnitude better than Babs. I really don’t understand how a voting bloc continues to elect the undesirable. We in Outer Neeorkistan are saddled with the same style of loser...Charles Aloisius Schumer his name be praised. Votes D 97% of the time. sd

There will be some lost causes but the bigger picture is to stop the bleeding, cockblock zero and body slam them in 2012. Are you up for it patriots?

She’ll have a much tougher reelection fight than in any years past. The Dems are falling out of favor and those farther to the left are feeling it moreso. And please remember that there’s more to California than Hollywood and San Francisco. There are plenty of moderates and conservatives that would liove a chance to vote for a viable alternative and send “Maam” packing.

Besides, how does one ‘earn’ the title of “Senator”? It simply a title that’s automatically given to anyone that wins that election campaign. It’s not like she had to pass a test or prove some kind of worth to get it and keep it. The Brigadier General truly had to earn his title and is much more deserving of respect.

Generals usually address those who outrank them as “sir”. When it’s a woman they use “ma’am”. I expect that this general has addressed many Senators and Representatives as “sir” and “ma’am”. It’s unlikely that any others have ever complained.

Troy: You know, I asked him about that. He said, good manners are just a way of showing other people we have respect for them. See, I didn't know that, I thought it was just a way of acting all superior. Oh and you know what else he told me?
Eve: What?
Troy: He thinks I'm a gentleman and you're a lady.
Eve: [disgusted] Well, consider the source! I don't even know what a lady is.
Troy: I know, I mean I thought a "gentleman" was somebody that owned horses. But it turns out, his short and simple definition of a lady or a gentleman is, someone who always tries to make sure the people around him or her are as comfortable as possible.
(Blast from the Past)

Boxer. You're no lady!

Let's not forget Madame Boxofrocks treating the President of the Black Chamber of Commerce, Harry C. Alford, like a five year old while implying that he wasn't black enough because he didn't agree with the NAACP.

He was an Officer and a Gentleman all the way while boxir showed who she was. Anyone who has to toot their own horn is certainly insecure with who he/she is. The good General won that battle as all good Generals should. :)
