Sanfords Wife Files for Divorce
ROBBIE BROWN
December 11, 2009
Jenny Sanford on Friday filed for divorce from her husband, Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina, who confessed in June to an affair with a woman in Argentina.
As so many of us know, the dissolution of any marriage is a sad and painful process, Ms. Sanford said in a statement. Because Mark and I are public figures, we have naturally had less privacy with which to deal with our difficulties than do other couples. Indeed, I know it will soon become known, so I choose to release this brief notice that I am now filing for divorce.
The Sanfords have been separated since shortly after he admitted the affair in a teary-eyed news conference. Although Ms. Sanford has been living at the familys beach house on Sullivans Island, S.C., with her four sons, the Sanfords have said publicly that they hoped to salvage the marriage. Even Thursday, Mr. Sanford told the news media that he wanted to remain married.
But that proved untenable, Ms. Sanford said in the statement. This came after many unsuccessful efforts at reconciliation, she said, yet I am still dedicated to keeping the process that lies ahead peaceful for our family.
She thanked supporters across the country for their words of encouragement and prayers during this difficult time.
In her court filing, Ms. Sanford cited adultery as the grounds for divorce, according to the document, which was posted by The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C. The defendant has engaged in a sexual relationship with a woman other than the plaintiff, the filing says. The plaintiff has not condoned that relationship and is informed and believes that she is entitled to a divorce from Mr. Sanford on ground of adultery.

“Sanford and shun”
Good for her. SC voters should follow her lead.
So, does this mean that Mark and Tiger are going to be “roomies” soon???
Me either, and it has nothing to do with his sexual/romantic escapades. The guy went completely AWOL, leaving his security detail baffled and worried, and leaving various state agencies and lawmakers with no way to reach him in case an emergency arose which required his action. He walked off the job, figuring he could show up for it again whenever it suited him. That won't fly at any other type of job, and it certainly shouldn't fly for a state governor job. But according the the SC legislature, it's not a problem.
Long ago, I used to be a fast food manager. We had a policy of "No call, no show, no job", and we enforced it. Of course, the only people it was ever necessary to enforce it against were messed-up teenagers from multi-generation welfare households.
I think Sanford got off because he was able to confuse the AWOL & infidelity issues and spin it as a “private matter” but he should have been impeached for gross negligence or incompetence
Something is decidedly weird in the state of South Carolina, but I am glad to hear that Jenny Sanford is getting out of an outrageiously disgusting scene.
Best wishes to Mrs. Sanford, and especially the children.
“Long ago, I used to be a fast food manager. We had a policy of ‘No call, no show, no job,’ and we enforced it.”
Amazing that a high-ranking public official is not expected to meet the standards of a burger-flipper.
Indeed. And I’d hate to be a fast food manager in SC these days, trying to enforce such a basic rule. Who could blame the kids if they responded by wailing “But the Governor did it, and he didn’t get fired!”.
