CHARLESTON, S.C. – South Carolina's first lady, a former Wall Street vice president who helped launch her husband's political career, filed for divorce Friday more than five months after his tearful public confession of an affair with an Argentine woman.
"This came after many unsuccessful efforts at reconciliation, yet I am still dedicated to keeping the process that lies ahead peaceful for our family," Jenny Sanford said in a statement. The divorce complaint was filed in Charleston County Family Court.
In a statement, the governor blamed himself and said he and Jenny will "work earnestly to be the best mom and dad we can be to four of the finest boys on earth."

As a practical matter, he was stupid, thats for sure. But it’s interesting how these women who fit the feminist ideal of the perfect woman,,,somehow seem to always leave their man searching for something,,,,,a bit more feminine?
He broke up their family, and undoubtedly, she did her part to create it’s demise. Poor guy.
Sounds like Rhino is a wimmin-hater--there are several of those on FR-- trying to bait us. Jenny left her prestigious career to support Sanford's ambitions and to raise four sons. Someone tell me what is more traditionally feminine than that?
If Sanford needed a little more sumpin' sumpin'--that speaks to his weakness as a traditional male. Sanford is just a whorin' gigolo.

If by “feminist ideal” you mean educated, self-supporting, self-respecting, and not a victim, that’s what I want my daughters to be. So that if the man they married in love turns out to be a cheating pig, they can dump his scummy butt and move on to live a decent life. I am inferring from your comment that to you, feminine means useless, irrationally devoted and dependent? If you are the father of a daughter, do you really want her to grow up that way? I would love it if my daughters grew up to be Wall Street vice presidents, assuming other aspects of their lives were balanced and decent.

Yeah, he may find out that even Argentinians leave the cap off toothpaste, get fat, age badly, spend too much money, and engage in all the other unglamorous behavior that so often erodes even the most romantic and perfectly soul-mated relationships. He’s acting like some adolesecent caught up in his first crush. If nothing else, those four kids are worth denying self and doing the right thing.
