House Democrats said Thursday that denying humans were causing climate change is like denying smoking causes lung cancer.
Reps. Edward Markey (Mass.), Jay Inslee (Wash.) and Earl Blumenauer (Ore.) also compared climate change "deniers" to teabaggers who spread the false rumor about death panels and swift boaters who attacked Sen. John Kerrys (D-Mass.) war record during the 2004 presidential race.
The three members of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming called a news conference on Thursday in response to the controversy over the hacked emails from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, which has now become known as Climategate.
Markey, who is the chairman of the select panel, said climate change skeptics were engaging in a policy of distraction by promoting the hacked emails. But he said the emails do nothing to refute the overwhelming evidence that humans are causing global warming.
There is no magician trying to trick his audience, Markey said. "Our world is getting hotter, faster."
That was a specific reference to one of the more controversial emails in the bunch. An email dated Nov. 12, 1999, from Prof. Phil Jones references a trick to hide a decline.
Markey said the word trick in this case meant a clever way to fix a perplexing problem, and didnt indicate that the scientists were playing funny with the numbers. The decline relates to data from tree rings that did not correspond to actual temperatures in the region from 1960 to 1994. See a response from the Pew Center of Global Climate Change here.
Climate skeptics say the emails show climate scientists have manipulated data and sought to suppress divergent views.
Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska and GOP vice presidential candidate, said in a Washington Post op-ed that President Barack Obama should boycott Copenhagen in light of the emails.
The e-mails reveal that leading climate 'experts' deliberately destroyed records, manipulated data to 'hide the decline' in global temperatures, and tried to silence their critics by preventing them from publishing in peer-reviewed journals, Palin wrote.
Before Sarah Palin writes a book, she should try reading a few, Inslee said. He then listed several reports on climate change, including the National Academy of Science's report in 2007 that concluded with 90 percent assurance that according to Inslee found that in fact we are heading down a very dangerous road due to human-induced climate change."
These people are all control freaks; they have to CONTROL and MANIPULATE everything and everyone...isn’t that a mental illness of some kind?
And how arrogant to think that us humans-a spec in the universe- can change a freakin CLIMATE. Not just once (make it bad) but twice! (change it back to ‘perfect’).
They are climate-jihadists and enviro-terrorists, running nothing more than a global scam.

I strongly and heart-feltly deny that the temperature of the interior of the earth is millions of degrees!
Any person with a brain should know this is a scam after learning that human activity creates only 3% of all global carbon dioxide. The other 97% comes from Mother Nature. This fact alone should embarrass the global warming scum but they’re too greedy or too stupid to feel embarrassed.
Stop accepting the premise that their agenda has anything to do with “stopping global warming”.
Never was.
OMG! They’re calling people BAD NAMES! And shaking their fingers! Run for your lives!

Death panels were not false rumors, tea baggers were non violent and the Swiftboaters were telling the truth about Kerry. How then are Swiftboaters, tea baggers, etc., bad things?
Exactly. They better hope their voters are blue or they’ll be looking for a job next year. Thanks to their cap and trade, tax hikes, regulation hikes, etc. it’ll be a long time before they ever find a job again. That is unless they join up with Al Gore for a company doing nothing to get millions of stimulus dollars.
Truth telling is bad, in their world of lies.
Guess that makes me proud to be a swiftboating teabagging denier...
So what, I say “Welcome all to the party!”
Maybe it’s time for all of us to grab some torches and show them what getting hotter really feels like.
Ans what is more disturbing is the fact there are so many people out there willing to be slaves again, born again zombie sheep who will go along with anything their respective governments dictate even if it means destroying all their freedoms that all of us have fought so hard to get in the first place.
I agree, the “deniers” of man-caused global warming are like the tea bag party-goers and the swift-boaters: the are winning the argument and that is because the TRUTH will set you (and hopefully the rest of us) FREE!!
Welcome to the fight all you revolutionary “teabaggers” out there!
What Army? Our Army? You can depend that after the first deaths by our troops and they figure they are killing their brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, etc, the guns will turn on the real enemy, Washington.
Rep. Markey (Mass.) and Sen. Inhofe (OK) will be on Fox News Sunday this week. Ought to be a good debate.
I'm all of those and a "bitter clinger", as well.
Oh yeah, according to some lesbian at DHS, I'm also a "potential terrorist".
WOLVERINES!
