Anyone know what Post article this refers to?
Seems to me that the phrase “hide the decline” means that something (e.g., a data set) is declining and that “we scientists must hide that fact.”
As a rule of thumb, if the field of study has the word “science” in it it isn’t.

Let’s make sure we distinguish between “elite” and “elitist”, though. There are elites that DON’T believe they have the right and duty to make decisions for everyone else. Thomas Jefferson was just such a person. There are some modern conservative elites of the same mindset.
