In this case, Huckabee did the only thing he could do. All the other cases, I don't know. But this country is turning into a big prison farm thanks to out of control prosecutors (both parties) and demagogue politicians with their mandatory minimums. If this costs him politically, it's a shame.

Yeah, it's a real shame that those four dead cops are going to cost Huckabee politically. I bet those four widows are really bummed out that Huckabee might not get to be president after all.

“We all do stupid things when we’re young, but nothing even vaguely like that. Even an idiot could see where it was heading.”

Golly....you are so much wiser and smarter than the rest of us. You really should be governor of Arkansas to show us all how to do things right.........

Oh my....and you think Mike is responsible for all that crime?

Are you stooodid?

Huckabee had the third-longest tenure of any Arkansas Governor.

Do people in Arkansas take responsibility for anything?

This guy was governor of the state right?

Look at #174.

The crime statistics in #174 should be a wake up call to anyone that lives there...

Good Lord....

The prosecutors may feel a grim sense of schadenfreude about the Huckster but I’m sure they’re sick about the fact four police officers died to prove he shouldn’t have been reducing those sentences.

You are correct. Prosecutors have a hard row to hoe. They have to get up close and study facts and evidence that one really does not want to know. They often live with their cases. The only thing that is more depressing than a conviction is when a guilty perpetrator walks. Then, even when they get a conviction, some Pontius Pilate of a governor releases Barabus on a 10% chance.

“I repeat...YOU ARE A PIG!!!”

Oh, silly me...I now realize you are saying I’m a policeman (”Pig” is old slang for “police”). Nope...never been one.

“....not by a disgusting, bigoted fool like you, I’m not!!!”

I’m deely offended you didn’t add more negative adjectives. I’m proud to be “bigoted” towards Mormonisn just as I am against Sodomites (homosexuals)...the list goes on.

Oh my....and you think Mike is responsible for all that crime? Wow....I didn’t know he had that much influence....

Oh my, I had no idea Hukabee, having one of the longest governorships in the history of Arkansas had zero power or influence...

He was just an innocent by-stander, right slick?

Let these facts spin your spokes champ.

Oh, I don't know. In this case 47 years means 11 years served , and so on. Hardly anybody stays in for too long, unless its murder 1 or a string of felonies. This guy had a string of felonies..

What indicts Huckleberry is all the other pardons; 1100 in all, while Missouri next door had 47. The ole coot couldnt even give a rationale for the vast majority of them.

For now, Romney wins this one on the merits, IMO. But he is despicable, i will agree with you on that.

“Fred didn’t try to buy votes from black congregations with pardons”

He was never a governor and could not. Plus, he had plenty of children from his first “ditched” wife to vote for him. Fred also had an openly homosexual on his PR staff for his campaign.....so he had others to pander to.

You Fred heads are more vindictive than the Romeny supporters. You guys will always blame Fred’s poor showing on Mike.

some statistics.

Ya think?

Seems Little Rock has 4 times the per capita crime than even Los Angeles...

Must be those Midwestern ethics and morals.

Perhaps the worst instance of that same syndrome, chronicled in detail by Arkansas journalists, concerned an Air Force sergeant named Glen Green, who was sentenced to prison for life after confessing that he had raped and killed a teenage girl. After beating the woman with nunchucks, he violated her almost lifeless body, ran over her with his car and buried her in a swamp. But yet another preacher friend of Huckabee’s named Rev. Johnny Jackson somehow persuaded the governor that this incredibly brutal killing had been an “accident”—and that Green had repented, come to Jesus and therefore should be freed.

Two years ago, I noted that Huckabee knew almost nothing about the Green case beyond what his preacher pal had told him. He consulted neither the prosecutor nor the victim’s family, and overruled the dissent of his own parole board. After he announced that Green would be released, the furious public reaction forced him to reverse the decision. Yet he continued to release murderers and other violent criminals despite angry dissent from local prosecutors.

You think 106 years for a 16 year old who’d never used a weapon in a crime was proper?

I would think that on the record. As events have proven, that was an appropriate sentence.

Jurors sit in the court and observe the conduct, attitude, and expression of the defendant. Demeanor is an important aspect in fact finding. Then the jury does its duty.

Then some desk bound bureaucrat looks at a paper record, decides he is much smarter than the people who were there, and undoes the work of the people who were there.

The jurors saw extraordinary threat. They were right.

Also, your 16 year old committed forcible robbery. That is a violent offense. The people on the jury measured this turd rightly. The judge and politician conspired to make our world more dangerous, so they could indulge in some transitory moral masturbation. After all, that is what liberals live for.
