SOLAR MINIMUM (Global Cooling Alert)
NASA via spaceweather.com ^ | 12/2/2009 | Staff

The sun is in the pits of a very deep solar minimum. Many researchers thought the sunspot cycle had hit bottom in 2008 when the sun was blank 73% of the time. Not so. 2009 is on the verge of going even lower. So far this year, the sun has been blank 75% of the time, and only a serious outbreak of sunspots over the next few weeks will prevent 2009 from becoming the quietest year in a century.

Now up to another nine day stretch with no sunspots, and no activity on the horizon. The solar wind remains extremely weak, below half of historical levels.

It seems likely we'll see unusual cold events this winter, probably worse than last year. I'd suggest that "the year without a summer" in the Northeast wasn't a coincidence either.

I hope that combined with Climategate, the debunking of the IPCC models, and overriding concerns about the economy this is enough to permanently kill Cap and Trade and "Climate Change" wealth redistribution.

All the politicians are saying that climategate doesn’t matter. However, Australia kicked out a warmist this week. Hopefully they will get the message.

Note that pesky blue line below both of the prediction curves. ;-)

If it really was a concern about climate that might happen. Instead it is a conspiracy to implement one-world government between certain scientists, media whores, leftist government officials, and academia. It will be hard to stop this cabal.

If free elections continue to be held ;-), there will be a serious backlash in the US against this stuff. Before Climategate broke, 2/3 of the public didn’t believe in AGW.

Given recent developments, and a frigid winter, I expect the number to go substantially higher.

As I understand it (correct me if I’m wrong) both Cap and Trade and Copenhagen are dead until at least late 2010. That’s a very positive development, and I think indicative of the trend.

That’s what they’re saying...but they were also saying that “health care” enslavement didn’t have the votes either. I think that’s the ruse to calm down the masses—say they it won’t happen and then spring it on you.

Maybe we can prevent global cooling if we cook the data.

Note that temps have been falling since 1998 and didn’t follow the sunspot”peak” in your graph.

“Note that temps have been falling since 1998 and didn’t follow the sunspot”peak” in your graph.”

They’ve not monotonically fallen. At any rate, solar forcing isn’t the only factor (1998 was a strong El Nino year in particular), however it’s clear that the weakest solar minimums have forced temperatures several degrees lower historically. That’s enough to swamp any claimed increase from AGW (and far more than enough to swamp any real increase, based on Lord Monckton’s latest release).

We’ll see. :-)

Winter hasn’t even started here in N. Dakota. In the 90s, we had permanent snow by November 1st nearly every year, it seems. We’ve had a couple of flurries, a little rain, and hardly any days below freezing. It bothers me because I worry that people will start believing in the GW hoax again.

I’m praying for some very bad weather for Copenhagen this coming week.

I read about a month ago a technical paper that postulated that the next 25th sunspot cycle has been entirely jumped....going from 24th to 26th directly.

This has something to do with the orientation of the sunspot magnetic field...that is supposed to reverse each cycle.

Will post a link after work later today.

I first read the term “maunder minimum” on FR.

Time for the American people to make this part of their awareness and part of the debate over why our leaders are not preparing us for the real climate change that may be coming from nature.

“This has something to do with the orientation of the sunspot magnetic field...that is supposed to reverse each cycle.”

I don’t think so. The polarity of the occasional Cycle 24 spot has been as expected. It’s just that the minimum between the two cycles, when either type of sunspot may appear, has been much longer than usual.

The most interesting science related to current solar conditions, to me, is:

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2008/06/02/livingston-and-penn-paper-sunspots-may-vanish-by-2015/

That paper, from the National Solar Observatory, seems to indicate we may be going into a capital-M “Minimum”. I like to think of it as the “Gorean Minimum”. lol

I would wonder how many of the attendees are there on their own dime, and how many on the wallets of people throughout the world who can ill afford paying for the Copenhagen Vacation?

We are now in the beginning of what will be known as the
“Gore Minimum”. The Sun drives the weather on Earth and I guess it got upset that all the so called climate scientists left the Sun out of their calculations and decided to show them who is boss..:o)

Store lots of non-perishable food, buy blankets, its gonna get really COLD!
