I heard that on the scanner. Those cops have nerves of steel. The cop said the guy flagged him down and he went over. Empty pistol holster on the seat - guy in body armor.
Cop asked him for CCW which he had. Cop unknown on legality of body armor “same as his” but got his information and let the guy go.
Sounds like they completed their sweep of the park with no luck.

Carrying in a bar is legal in Indiana, although I seldom go to them. I also seldom go inside government buildings or schools where CCW is forbidden.
Either no one has noticed (most likely) or no one cares that I carry in church. If I am ever asked, I will point out the number of shootings taking place in churches in the last 2 years. If pressured, I’m certain I can find God elsewhere. He helps those who help themselves, I hear.
Scanner said they are doing a second sweep of the park as well with bikes and foot. I wonder if they have the dogs out there yet?
The scanner traffic sure makes it clear why CCW is so important - there’s never a cop around when you need one. One cop said something about how a road they wanted blocked an hour earlier still had traffic coming down it. “We had to come out of the woods to get them turned around” (I think it was blocked at one end but not the other.)
Anyway - how long before they got to the park after the possible witness called, and an hour with one of the roads still not blocked - the scum could easily be long gone. :(
Dang - now just released both the outer and inner perimeters around the park.

He may be long gone, especially if he got his wife’s car at her house or wherever she was last night. But he’s got a four-murder warrant out for him and if he’s cornered somewhere, the cops will give him one chance to surrender and if they see a weapon pointed toward them, well, ...
I’m still hopeful that the blood trail was his coming off the bus stop and into the park’s bathroom.
The reluctant cop checked the guy out and said he was clean and told the man to that they (the police) had it handled but he wanted clarity on the legality of the body armor.
The officer was told it was illegal but they did not tell
him to arrest the guy.
They told him to file a report and the guy might get charged later.
That has been my concern because this area is so close to freeway access in all directions with no traffic congestion either.
It would have taken less than 5 minutes to be north or south on I5 if he escaped by vehicle carjacked or otherwise.
Body armor is illegal in WA? I guess I’ll have to update my Christmas list ;)

Cop said “its just like mine” when questioned about what type.
I guess a crappy tactical vest must be okay.

"The senseless and savage execution of police officers in Washington State has saddened the nation, and early reports indicate that a person of interest is a repeat offender who once lived in Arkansas and was wanted on outstanding warrants here and Washington State. The murder of any individual is a profound tragedy, but the murder of a police officer is the worst of all murders in that it is an assault on every citizen and the laws we live within.
Should he be found to be responsible for this horrible tragedy, it will be the result of a series of failures in the criminal justice system in both Arkansas and Washington State. He was recommended for and received a commutation of his original sentence from 1990. This commutation making him parole eligible and was paroled by the parole board once they determined he met the conditions at that time. He was arrested later for parole violation and taken back to prison to serve his full term, but prosecutors dropped the charges that would have held him. It appears that he has continued to have a string of criminal and psychotic behavior but was not kept incarcerated by either state. This is a horrible and tragic event and if found and convicted the offender should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Our thoughts and prayers are and should be with the families of those honorable, brave, and heroic police officers."
