I am not in the car industry, just an old enthusiast.

But I live in SoCal, home of a design studio by just about every company in the world.

And a lot of new era car industry stuff is going on, here.

—Downey vying to be assembly location, for Tesla’s second car—cheaper sedan.

—Fisker Hq. in Orange County. I have met engineers with Fisker, mostly BMW and Porshe guys from Germany.

—MetalCrafters in Fountain Valley pounds out a bunch of world class prototypes, and a variety of other idustry support activities. Currently they are building limited edition Iacocca Mustangs, etc.

—BMW does development and test work in Ventura County, near Port Hynemme (port they use for import drop off, too)

—Calty has been Toyota’s US design studio for over 3 decades, in Newport Beach.

There is a lot more, but it is kept pretty much out of the news. While some HQ. have moved away from California, and of course factories go mostly to right-to-work Southern states, a lot of creative and technical development is here.

My answer to the smart gridders is the same as that to the conservers: you still need a source of electricity to be smart with or conserve. All the smarts and conserving in the world doesn't generate a single watt-hour of juice.

These people are so stupid. When you ask them where electricity comes from they say it comes out of the wall (socket). They think food comes from grocery stores and gasoline from the pumps down at the filling station. They're in the same league as those parasites standing in line for Obama Buck

Do you think 0bama has ever done anything technical or mechanical in his life? Like re-do his brakes or change the oil on his car? He is surrounded by idiots like that. 

0bama did great on English in his SATs and on math? Maybe he did half OK. 
Lawyers have strong verbal skills and so does the demagogue 0bama
But how well would he do in hard science like a physics class?

A lot of the so called managerial class in Europe and America....this is what 0bama and his cronies are....
They can't do hands on stuff to save their lives. Like some basic plumbing repairs
Instead they want to lord over those who can do the practical things in life
They feel entitled to lord over the common people who can-do

I know several lawyers, and I wouldn’t stereotype them. I am talking people who passed the tough California Bar exam first time, and have practiced law as a career, not mail order types who do it part time for awhile.

One undergrad Chemical engineering—long succesful career in international project management, now a professional mediator; another undergrad Finance—now business law; another now a sitting Superior Court judge, very strong verbally—but smart.

Law is a demanding enough subject to require a structured, organized thinker like hard science, engineering, accounting, etc.

Any of these guys could change oil, probably fire a pretty nice group at the range.

Those are the people and lawyers you know and prefer to hang with.....

As for 0bama and his ilk? They are different. They like the squishy and vague stuff. Not the quantifiable. Michael Mann with his hockey stick graph.... He’s awful at statistics. It wasn’t all deception. These CRU types are squishy and bad at logic and math.

Steve McIntyre has an excellent background in math. He knew their published info looked fishy so he requested the underlying data to determine this

Asking government to get out of the way is not asking for the government to get involved, it is asking the government to curtail it’s involvement.

If EV cars are the future, I am not one to poo-poo the notion or stand in the way of this evolution of technology, if it is indeed superior and wins the day on it’s own merits.

As a personal aside, I think the romantic period with the automobile has died. A Prius or Chevy Volt isn’t as pretty as a classic Mustang, GTO or Camaro and never will be.

EV's offer the potential for a brand new romantic period as designers will no longer have to deal with constraints of engine, transmission, drive train and fuel tank location.
