Palin in Wasilla: Mastery of governing detail, resistence to insider assimilation
The North Star National ^ | 11/24/09 | Dan Calabrese

You can’t help but notice that just about everyone who is part of the political establishment detests Sarah Palin. And you can’t help but notice that Palin couldn’t care less.

Early in the second chapter of Going Rogue, a chapter titled “Kitchen-Table Politics,” you learn everything you need to know to understand why. This is the way Palin has been wired for a very long time. During her two terms on the Wasilla City Council, followed by two terms as the city’s mayor, she consistently demonstrated a refreshing immunity to the insider mentality that tends to afflict people who serve in government at any level.

The first really new line of insight about why Sarah Palin is different from most other politicians and what amounts to the most important experience she might have, actually governing.

I think it will become more and more apparent to people that Sarah Palin is who she is. She believes what she believes. And she does what she says she will do.

If you like it and want to vote for her, fine.
If you don't like it, and don't want to vote for her, that's fine too.
But she's not going to change who she is in a quest for your vote.

She's a very different kind of politician, and I think after a few years of Obama, an awful lot of people will be eager for the sort of change she brings.

Yeah, she really lays it all out in her book about what she thinks is wrong with politics at the local, state, and National levels, and has resolved to do something about it, steeled by Todd, her family, and her faith in God.

I agree, but Calabrese hits another note, the most important note on why she is different. She doesn't "play" the game. This breaks the game and forces folks to get back to the work of governing rather than self-dealing. This is why the insiders resist and spit and grumble.. but also why folks when they get what she is about give her the power to do more.

Her book is very, very good, and very enlightening about how the Republican insiders sabotaged the campaign. That political “pros” hate her is exactly what makes her the most qualified to be President. She would likely use the veto a lot.

You are right on the money. I believe that faith and humility are the core of her, who can resist all of this adulation? He fights, argues against the interviewers who keep trying to tell her she is "all that" or say she has power.

She keeps reminding that power only flows through her as long as she is serving the interests of those who give their hearts and hope to her that she might do what they need.

An EXCELLENT article - MUST READ!
When it comes to the nuts and bolts of governing, Palin is one of the most substantive politicians to arrive on the scene in quite some time. And when it comes to having the intestinal fortitude necessary keep the interests of the people at the top of the agenda, I can’t think of a single person anywhere in politics who is Palin’s equal.

If you disagree with Palin’s philosophy of governing because you are a political liberal, that’s fine. But if you’re an honest person, stop trying to pretend she’s some sort of good-looking moron.

The more you read about Palin’s experience in governing, the more you understand why the national political establishments of both parties hope to smother her political career in its crib. She knows how to govern – better than most of them do, in fact. She just won’t do it the way they do it, and that scares the crap out of them.

I am a Palin fan, but she has no chance in 2012. After four years of the incompetent incumbent, the electorate will be looking for someone with substantive experience. For all of her attributes, Palin does not have the experience at the national level. Romney and Guiliani score highly.

Were either of those positions full time? Does anyone know?

Romney and Giuliani make me sick. If the GOP actually runs either of those guys, I WILL vote for the Democrat. I've never voted for a Democrat in all my 50 years, but if the GOP tries to foist another RINO on me, I will send the message as clearly as I can: the Democrats win that way.

Serious.

Another interesting point in her book is that when liberal Nick Carney and others recruited her to run for the Wasilla city council, they thought they were recruiting another liberal to augment their numbers. When she began voting against them as a Conservative, they quickly turned on her-—hence all the invective from “betrayed” liberals coming out of Wasilla during the 2008 campaign.

Romney and Guiliani are DOA for 2012. Its just not going to happen. Romney did many of the "right" things in 2008, but RomneyCare is fatal and this is his signature issue. Running on RINO as a way to win against BO isn't going to find support in the base and the Tea Party movement is going to be out in droves against him or Guiliani so both are pretty much cooked. Sorry.
