Via Andrew, some real talk from David Frum:
I was interviewed on PBS last week about Palin's book release. I said that Palin had an especially serious problem with women voters.
This is just fact, again recorded in every survey. In October 2008, Palin's support dropped furthest and fastest among women, and especially among independents: more than two dozen points among independent women in barely 6 weeks. Consistently since the campaign, every survey has shown the former Alaska governor much more popular among men than women. And yet this attested statistical fact is shrugged off with comments like, "when I saw her campaign in N.H., I was surrounded by moms with strollers"
So let's try to bang this one down for keeps.
Earlier this month, CNN/Opinion Research released a poll showing that only 28% of Americans now think Palin qualified for the presidency. 70% say she is unqualified. Even among Republicans, only 54% think she is qualified, 44% say No.
The published poll does not break these answers down by sex, but I asked my friends at the Political Unit for the cross-tabs, and here's what they show:
While 33% of men deem Palin qualified, only 24% of women do. 66% of men deem her unqualified - and 74% of women.
Now look just at Republicans: Republican men deem Palin "qualified" by a margin of 60-38. But Republican women? Not even half think she is qualified: only 49%. 50% of Republican women say Palin is unqualified for the job.
If you like Palin - well go ahead. It's a free country. But quit saying that "the people" love Sarah Palin.
They don't. Actually, they quite dislike her. The longer they know her, the more they dislike her. And even more than they dislike her, they do not respect her.

Ta-Nehisi Coates quoting Andrew Sullivan quoting David Frum quoting the polls is simply a layer cake of excrement.
Look, you could just as easily have said before the 2006 elections that Sarah Palin would never be governor of Alaska. Probably even more easily. And yet she won the primary with 51 percent against the incumbent governor and a former state legislator. Then she won the general election 48-40 against the Democrat who was (then) the immediate past governor. And went on to be an fairly effective and popular governor. This in...not a particularly good year for Republicans. Here’s a thought: Just maybe she’s not that stupid.
I haven’t heard any women I know express their dislike for Sarah, quite the opposite. She has the best chance of any woman to become the next president, and a better chance than most men.
She makes zero look like well, zero.
How many books has this Frum quack sold recently?
And the polls show the moderates are swinging away from the Dems. Do you read the web site called FreeRepublic.com?
I dont know all the issues that are bothering them. I just think it is not something to brush off if Palin wants to be president.
I have not heard any of my Republican women friends say anything but good things about Palin. I have some Republican male friends who dismiss her as a lightweight after the 2008 loss and after the Couric interview, etc. But this is all anecdotal.
Actually, I keep thinking it's time to move on from Sarah Palin, but the attacks on her from the left are so intense, I have to think there is something to her. I cannot remember this kind of vitriol directed against a non-candidate since Reagan in the mid 70's.
Back then, Lilly Ledbetter had a prime time appearance at the dem convention and had many, many campaign ads for Obama.
And, in Jan, the first thing the new congress did was pass the Ledbetter legislation which Obama promptly signed into law.

My bumper sticker is going to read: Going Rogue in 2012
Obama’s HORRENDOUS poll numbers must be scaring the crap out of the left. Sarah will never be President, yeah Frum, you keep telling yourself that..and in 2012, you will have to refer to her as PRESIDENT Palin. I’ll even invite to you the inauguration where you will have to watch her take the oath of office
Andrew Sullivan and David Frum?!
geez...
I like Michelle Bachmann better, and I think she doesn’t have some of the baggage (Levi Johnston) that Palin has.

“our” women or theirs?
Can we finally dispense with the illusion that David Frum is a conservative?
You have to begin to ask yourself, why is David Frum so pruriently possessed with Sarah Palin? It seems like Frum’s total career now is devoted to trying to take down Palin.
David, why do you kick against the goads?
Never say never the “people” love Sarah Palin.
Knowing how evil the Socialists, a/k/a Democrats are, and also knowing how stupid the majority of voters who live in the United States, that would not surprise me in the least.
If the first two were not enough in and of themselves. factor in the hatred of her and Consertavies Christian Conservatives in particular by both the Country Club Republicans abd the Ministry of Misinformation, a/k/a the main stream media, sghe has long odds to overcome.
But, with the help of Almighty God it can be done.
If she makes it through the nomination process I will vote for her. Otherwise, I stay home.
Where David Frum comes from, the most revered female politician got herself in line behind Gennifer and Monica for a ride on the Bubba Clinton Experience, and then fled her Socialized Medicine system for L.A. when diagnosed with breast cancer.
I've had the same experience. I have a friend who is somewhat active in Republican politics, who says she will never vote for Palin for anything. Her reason is "She's not presidential material."
Personally, that's her best quality. If Obama and he-who-shall-not-be-named (from Arkansas) can be seen as having "presidential" qualities, then there's a real disconnect between what's good for the country and who's fit to sit in the oval office. And Sarah's presence just makes that even more obvious.
If you are talking about Bill Kristol, he may be an elitist but:
"Kristol was among the most prominent conservative commentators to support John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate in the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election. According to writer Scott Horton, he also played a part in her selection, by "arguing that she was young, popular, vigorous, unknown and had the right connections to the Religious Right bloc which had proven so important to Republican wins in 2000 and 2004." The Weekly Standard, which according to Horton served as "Palins chief defender" against attacks, hosted a cruise in June 2007, where Standard editors Kristol and Fred Barnes first lunched with Governor Sarah Palin." - Wikipedia
I agree. Palin is good conservative, but unelectable.
