I see this as a sort of secular affirmation of faith (if the two aren't contradictory). If we are to incorporate our values into our daily lives, and those values are increasingly at odds with the society around us, then we must either acquiesce to society's dictates or challenge the validity of our environment.

It has come to the point where our hand is being forced, and we can celebrate the opportunity to stand our ground despite the dangers.
