Pittsburgh Mayor moves ahead with proposed Tuition Tax (has the votes)
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | November 20, 2009 | Rich Lord

A majority of Pittsburgh City Council members said yesterday that they'll vote for a tuition tax, but that won't stop the universities -- and maybe the students -- from trying to derail the effort.

[snip]

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl gathered five council members in his conference room yesterday to deliver a message: We don't want to tax students, but unless the universities pay voluntarily, we have no choice.

[snip]

"If this tax is implemented, it will not be the fault of Mayor Ravenstahl," said Mr. Burgess. "It will not be the fault of council. It will solely be on backs of the educational and medical communities who are unwilling to share their great wealth with the city in its time of need."

That amount, plus another $1 million a year for the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, would come from the 1 percent tuition levy, which the mayor calls the Fair Share Tax.

This is the clearest example yet of what will happen when you give Democrats enough control to take you down their Marxist rabbit hole.

I am really enjoying the irony though of watching Liberal universities (who up to now have never met a Socialist policy or a tax they didn’t like) howling in protest!

If you can afford the $40,000 tuition at Carnegie Mellon, you should be able to afford the $400 tuition tax easily. Take that, all you libtards who would never, ever consider voting for anyone without a “D” after their name.

If you attend Carnegie-Mellon that tax would come to $360 a year, assuming the tax is on tutition not the boarding component.

You gotta love the attempt to move blame from the hold-up men to the victims.

If you don't comply with my demands and I hurt you,it is your fault.

Never any talk about cutting budgets with these people. Looking into waste. No. Just get more tax money from wherever they can find it. Tuition?

Didn’t Ravenstahl spend all that money in converting the light fixtures in the City County Building so that the curly cue bulbs could be used? Going green.

TYPICAL inner-city RAT mayor.

Always pushing gun-grabbing policies, and willing to tax his own mother to death to pay for his and his cronies inept management and corrupt "leadership".

He can get all the votes he want, the tax won’t pass legal muster..

This is what you get when Mr. Peabody’s former sidekick is your mayor.

I think that idea came from Councilman Bill Peduto. He is driving them to convert all of the street lights over to green LED technology (while it is still cutting-edge, read “very expensive”, technology. Not in a few years when it is proven and the price comes down)

They are out there in line buying the first Betamax for $3000.00 with our money.

What was the name of the railroad's "Washington Man" in Atlas Shrugged?

Isn't this nearly a verbatim quote from there?!?

For those of you on the network....Luke Ravenstahl is the Boy Mayor of Pittsburgh. Age 28, 29 maybe. He popped out of college with a PoliSci degree at age 23 and won a seat on Pittsburgh City Council. Due to some bitter infighting he found himself elected Council President (sort of like that old movie where the Chairman of the Board keels over, and they elect the board idiot to replace him because “we all voted for him, none of us thought anyone else would”) Then the Mayor got sick and died, and as Council President he took over as Mayor at age 26. It’s as if the Klingons managed to kill Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Sulu, McCoy and Chekov, and Ensign Schmuck had to take command.

Legalized robbery. This is no different than a panhandler with a gun.

He's called Wesley Mouch. And yes, that's the first thought that crossed my mind as well.
