VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Compiling List of Upcoming Town Hall Meetings

VOLUNTEERS NEDED – Compiling List of Upcoming Town Hall Meetings

It seems that many Democratic members of congress will try to avoid attending town hall meetings with their constituents over the holiday recess so they do not have to endure the public fury and ridicule they experienced at these meetings over the Summer, and if they do hold town halls they will try to keep it quiet so only their supporters know when and where they will be.

With this in mind I am currently creating a list of ALL town hall meetings that are being scheduled for all members of the House and Senate. This list will be available on grassrootsnation.com and I will be making the raw data available to anyone who requests it so the information will be broadly available. Once the list is complete we can call out House Members and Senators who refuse to meet with their constituents.

I need volunteers to be responsible for monitoring their member of congress, or perhaps several members in their state to find out when they will be having town halls. You can check their website press release page to see when they announce something, or, since some of them may be sneaky and not make public announcements you may need to call or email their offices frequently, requesting the information.

For anyone interested in helping out you can enter the meeting information here.

Please freepmail me with the states and districts you will be monitoring. I will post a listing of which districts are being covered so we don’t duplicate efforts. If you have any problems with the website please let me know.

Thanks for the help! Let's make sure everyone knows when and where they can meet up with their representative over the holidays.

Was looking just then and don’t see any public announcements. I will start calling and see if I can get some info. They got burned over the summer so its not going to be easy.

Most of them probably will not start announcing town halls until they head home for recess but I just want to have the mechanism in place to collect and disseminate the information when it begins to flow.

We are not going to let the Congress hide from their constituents.

Boy, did you call it!

I’ve been fuming that our congressman just announced several with only a few days in advance. Here you go...

CARNEY ANNOUNCES TOWN HALL MEETINGS

Four Listening Tour Town Hall meetings to be held Monday and Tuesday

All Invited to Attend
Nov. 17, 2009

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Christopher P. Carney has announced four Listening Tour Town Hall Meetings for Monday and Tuesday to be held in Susquehanna, Pike, Wyoming and Bradford counties. He will be available to discuss issues affecting our community, including actions Congress is taking to reform our health care system, help our economy and support our veterans. In addition, Congressman Carney will have staff on hand to help with casework issues, including veterans’ benefits, Social Security and Medicare payments.

“Listening to the people of Pennsylvania’s 10th District is a responsibility I take very seriously as their representative in Congress,” said Congressman Carney. “Every year, I hold town hall meetings in each of the district’s 14 counties, events that provide me with an opportunity to not only meet constituents but hear their concerns and take their questions. I look forward to meeting constituents on Monday and Tuesday.”

Following the successes of the listening tours of the last two years, Congressman Carney has already held town hall events in seven counties in 2009.

Below are details about the four town hall events:

SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY TOWN HALL MEETING
WHERE: Susquehanna County Courthouse, 11 Maple St., Montrose, Pa.
WHEN: Monday, Nov. 23, 10 a.m.

PIKE COUNTY TOWN HALL MEETING
WHERE: Delaware Township Municipal Building, 116 Wilson Hill Road, Dingmans Ferry, Pa.
WHEN: Monday, Nov. 23, 4 p.m.

WYOMING COUNTY TOWN HALL MEETING
WHERE: Wyoming County Courthouse – Main Courtroom, 1 Courthouse Square, Tunkhannock, Pa.
WHEN: Tuesday, Nov. 24, 12:30 p.m.

BRADFORD/TIOGA COUNTY TOWN HALL MEETING

For anyone interested in monitoring their congressman/senator for town hall announcements, I've added a signup page to the website for easier tracking.

Go here to sign up.

Thanks again for the help. I should have pages up by this weekend to view the data being entered and I'll post it here as well. If anyone wants the town hall meeting data in an xml file just give me a shout.

I will check for any townhall meetings I can find in Florida and add them to the database.

If anyone knows of any, please let me know or enter the information. I’ll drive the entire state if needed to tell my elected officials what I think of this current Senate and House.

Any info is appreciated.

The first 24 town hall meetings are now up at GrassRootsNation. Thanks to everyone who is contributing information. Please spread the word so we can keep an eye on every member of congress and get a complete list out there so there will be no refuge for them when they head home for their Christmas break.
