Revered British folk singer Yusuf Islam - once known as Cat Stevens - has been booed by fans at an eagerly-awaited comeback concert after he allowed another singer to perform some of his best-known songs on stage.
'Now I know what (Bob) Dylan felt like,' Stevens told his audience in Dublin at the weekend after some fans booed while others gave a standing ovation in his first concert tour in 33 years.
They began walking out ...
'In London's West End, where it is due to open next year, 'Moonshadow' could go down a storm. In front of an audience who had come to hear Islam trawl his back catalogue, it was never going to work,' the Times critic wrote.
The Islam tour moves to Birmingham and Liverpool before hitting the Royal Albert Hall in London Dec 8.

This isn't an ISLAM thing; this is an artist who is too lazy to sing the songs he made famous; to people who paid outrageous ticket prices to hear him sing.
If I went to any concert, and the artist I went to see sat backstage and let someone else sing his songs for him; I'd walk out too!! I'd also demand my money back.
He’s the voiceover on a national advertising campaign here in the states. Every time I hear the first couple of notes, I hit the mute. I used to be one of his biggest fans. Unfortunately for him (born a Greek), he renounced truth and embraced destruction.
Oh, it’s an Islam thing, too.
No, if it were an Islam thing; people would not have bought tickets. You and I both know he's a Muslim; and as such wouldn't drop ~$100 for a ticket to hear him. So, we wouldn't buy tickets, hence we wouldn't walk out.
Now, if we bought ticket to hear oh .... Paul McCartney, or Neil Diamond or a host of other singers - and they sat backstage while a tribute band played their hits - then we'd walk out because we paid to hear the singer, not a tribute band.
Apparently, Stevens was actually followed by a crescent moon shadow, and caught.
I was a big fan of his back when. What next,a benefit for
KSM at Madison Square Garden!
I thought the ROP forbids music and song of any kind except for the verbal call to prostration????
No, Cat, People would cheer when someone other than Bob sang his songs..............
Sheesh - how about this other guy: He has to sing somebody else’s songs, gets booed for it, and when they write the article, they don’t even mention his name.
Many of the tribute bands I have heard are better than the original artists. Still, if I paid to hear the original I would be pissed to hear an imitation, even if the imitation was better.
I didn’t like his smug act 33 years ago, and was grateful when he became a Muslim—figgered we wouldn’t have to listen to his caterwauling any more—
Now the insufferable IPhone commercials.....
“If I ever lose my mouth, all my teeth, north and south”
Heh.
It is an Islam thing because he doesn’t want to sing those songs now that’s he’s become a muslim. He just wants your money so you can hear someone else sing them.
And Dylan got booed because he was singing Christian songs as well as his oldies. He didn’t have someone else come out and sing them.
The Iranian government forbids women from singing. I don’t think Islam as a whole forbids music.
There’s a Team Mobil commercial that ran during the World Series with a Cat Stevens song and a bunch of leftists celebrities (Whoopi Goldberg) using a new phone an Android. Every time that commercial came on I turned the channel. Glad I don’t have Team Mobile.
Looks like the ol Peace Train derailed.
I was going to ask about that. I knew it was either him or a real good attempt to imitate his music....
hh
I remember reading that he gave up music when he converted. He thought it was prohibited by Islamic law. Years later another Muslim cleric explained his point of view that the Koran does not forbid music, and indeed he would be sharing his gift from God by returning to music.
I never looked into the reasons why he as well as Cassius Clay converted and changed their names and everything, but both of those Muslim converts have spoken out against the terror acts of 9/11, religious extremism and violence in the name of Islam.
