MOSCOW — A Russian icebreaker carrying over 100 tourists, scientists and journalists on a cruise around Antarctica was struggling to free itself from sea ice but was not in any danger, a shipping company said Tuesday.

The Captain Khlebnikov icebreaker is about 5 miles from clear water near Snow Hill Island in the Weddell Sea, German Kuzin of the Fareastern Shipping Company told Russia’s Vesti 24 television. He said neither the ship nor the passengers faced any risks.

Reminds me of the time a bunch of greenies sailed up to Antarcica to observe the “devastation” on the polar ice caps by global warming, and got stuck in the ice themselves.

You're gonna just *love* this one, fellas. LOL!!!

All that's needed now are a few dozen hungry Polar Bears.
C/would really lend some great drama to this most unfortunate made-for-TV situation. :o)

They just need to wait a hundred thousand years or so for that one degree rise in the sea temperatures that AlGore has been predicting.

Wrong hemisphere. Polar Bears are Arctic animals.

Problem is...there are no polar bears in the southern hemisphere.

Maybe man-eating penquins though!

"Wrong hemisphere. Polar Bears are Arctic animals."

Thanks my friend, was just wishing. LOL

You couldn't have known I lived in AK for two years; hence, know my poles & what's indigenous to each. ;^)

Your dramatic instinct is excellent. An assault by Leopard seals wouldn’t be nearly so impressive on film.

"Maybe man-eating penquins though!"

The critter to watch in the Antarctic is the leopard seal. They're hell on penguins and have been known to attack people...

(I say this in the full knowledge of the thread earlier today showing a dramatic attack by Leopard seals. It was dramatic - especially for the penguins who got eaten - but Polar Bears are the way to go for a green-lit action movie.)
