- California's cigarette tax rank among states: 32nd
- All states' average cigarette tax: $1.34 per pack
- Nation's highest combined state-local cigarette tax: $4.25 per pack in New York City
- Last California cigarette tax hike: 50 cents per pack under 1998's Proposition 10, to fund early childhood education
- Current federal cigarette tax: $1.01 per pack, up from $0.39 effective April 1

Legalize pot, tax the crap out of tobacco.
Just ban tobacco! Shut 'em down. The nazis in NY have already shut down at least one Indian Reservation selling tobacco, that I know of.
Ban it! Make it illegal! ENOUGH!

Hell, just get it over with and ban tobacco at the Federal level.
Imagine millions of already P.O.ed Americans having a collective nicotine fit.
We'd be back to a Constitutional Republic shortly after the new elections to replace the survivors of the current government...
