Of course it's a completely off the wall theory with nothing whatever to support it.

Are there ties between Iman Siraj Wahhaj and his Brooklyn Masjid At-Taqwa Mosque to Gilani's Jamaat ul-Fuqra?

Masjid At-Taqwa Mosque, Siraj Wahaj
Nabbed and held captive by Brooklyn Jihadis!
Bos Smith Monday, April 28, 2008

(Editor’s Note: If Bos Smith, who holds a law degree from Wake Forest University can be hauled away by an angry group of angry Muslims in Islamic garb to the basement of a mosque where a group of 20 “security guards” in karate suits all for taking a photo, what about a tourist taking pictures for his travelogue? The working man’s lament, “It’s a free country, isn’t it?” doesn’t seem to work anymore.)

A tree grew in Brooklyn. No longer.

It has been uprooted by the Masjid At-Taqwa and other radical mosques that have sprouted up like huge mechanical mushrooms throughout the borough.

If you tarry in front of the Masjid At-Taqwa in the Bedford-Stuyvesant district and dare to take a photo, you might get hauled away by a group of angry Muslims in Islamic attire to the basement of the facility where a group of twenty “security guards” in karate suits will interrogate you.

This sounds preposterous. But it happened on a weekend in late April at 3:00 in the afternoon.

Ali Kareem, the head of security for Siraj Wahaj’s mosque, conducted the grilling. A small, muscular man with a wispy black beard that has been dyed red with henna, Kareem demanded to know the reason why a trio of kafirs had dared to photograph the building on a public street without securing his permission.

He further insisted on securing our identities and obtaining our motives for such a violation of Islamic space.

Being surrounded by a group of militant guards in a mosque basement from which there is no means of escape is not a comforting place to be for a Wall Street financier.

We tried to explain that we found the neighborhood with its halal meat vendors and food stores; Islamic dress shops, featuring the latest styles in burqas and hijabs; Muslim souvenir outlets, replete with bumper stickers stating “Don’t Be Caught Dead Without Islam”; and Middle Eastern restaurants offering a variety of goat dishes to be rather quaint and interesting.

This explanation was not sufficient. Kareem was impatient and did not want a detailed explanation of the reason for our excursion (simple sight-seeing) or a graphic account of the sights we had seen and photographed.

“I ask the questions here,” he said, “and you provide the answers.”

Realizing that we were in a bit of a pickle, my companion explained that we were interested in various religions and knew Siraj Wahaj, the imam of the mosque, was a prominent Muslim figure whom we would like to interview for a news outlet. This didn’t work too well since we could not produce a business card from a wacko blog, let alone credentials from a national publication.

At last, we blurted out that we were admirers of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) and wanted to obtain information about conversion. We were even knowledgeable enough to blurt out “Salaam” and “Allahu akbar.”

The last utterance seemed to be the “Open Sesame” that got us out of the basement and back to Bedford Street, where we managed to take a picture of the mosque before hailing a cab and making a getaway.

The experience was disconcerting. Surely, anyone who takes a picture of St. Patrick’s Cathedral or the Riverside Church is not hauled off to a basement for questioning by a threatening figure in a karate uniform and a band of Ninjas.

What is taking place within Masjid At-Taqwa? And what about Siraj Wahaj, the celebrated imam of this mosque who claims to be a moderate?

Masjid At-Taqwa at 1226 Bedford Street was an abandoned clothing store, which Wahaj purchased at an auction in 1979 for $30,000 with cash from oil-rich Saudis. The interior is divided into spacious, windowless rooms that have been painted green and beige.

At Friday afternoon prayers the meeting room is crammed with hundreds of congregants. Some show up in do-rag stocking caps and Sean John sweatshirts; others wear finely embroidered, authentic-looking Muslim caps and flowing robes of crimson and gold. About half of the attendees are African-Americans. The others are immigrants from the Middle East, South Asia and Africa. Worshipers range from Brooklyn street bums to the local celebrities, such as former heavy-weight champion Mike Tyson.

The place has played host to a number of notorious exponents of radical Islam, including Clement Rodney Hampton-El (Dr. Rashid), a key player in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. Mr. Hampton-El is presently cooling his heels in a federal slammer since he was found guilty of seditious conspiracy. Mr. Hampton-El, who was born and raised in Brooklyn, fought as a mujahadeen under Gulbuddin Hekmatyar in the holy war against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.

Upon his return, Hampton-El was hailed as a hero by members of the mosque. Imam Wahaj has said that he was sought out by young and old alike for spiritual advice as an “elder” in the community.

Wahaj, in fact, appeared as a character witness for Hampton El when the former mujahadeen stood trial before Judge Michael Mukasey in New York’s Federal District Court on charges of seditious conspiracy and attempted bombing.

Hampton-El is currently serving thirty-five years in a supermax prison for America’s most dangerous inmates.

Blind Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman visited Masjid At-Taqwa on many occasions while serving as the imam of the nearby Masjid al-Fooqra at 554 Atlantic Avenue, several blocks from Masjid At-Taqwi. On the second floor of Rahman’s mosque, al Qaeda had opened an office under the name of the al-Kifah Refugee Center. It became a favorite haunt for members of Wahaj’s congregation. Rahman also spoke on occasion at Masjid At-Taqwa. In one speech, the fiery sheikh suggested that Muslims should rob banks to benefit Islam.

In 1995, Sheikh Rahman was hauled into court as the alleged architect of the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center and for planning to blow up the United Nations, the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the George Washington Bridge, and buildings throughout Manhattan. At his side was his good friend Siraj Wahaj who provided testimony of the sheik’s sterling character.

In a Feb. 2, 1995, letter to defense lawyers in the landmarks-bombing case, then-U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White named about 170 people as “un-indicted persons who may be alleged as co-conspirators.” Imam Wahaj was on the list.

(snip)

Another visitor, according to informed sources, was Sheikh Gilani, the founder of Jamaat ul-Fuqra, who served as the imam of yet another Brooklyn mosque - - the Yasin Masjid at 777 Saratoga Avenue. This infamous mosque is now a beauty salon. From 1980 to 1995, it served as a recruiting center for the jihad and for paramilitary Islamic compounds that remain in existence throughout the country.

Since the time of its inception, Jamaat ul-Fuqra has been responsible for more terror attacks on American soil (30 and counting) than all other terrorist groups combined. Members of ul-Fuqra, which maintains headquarters in Pakistan, have been convicted in US courts of such crimes as homicide, conspiracy to commit murder, firebombing, gun smuggling, grand theft, counterfeiting, and workers’ compensation fraud.

Others remain leading suspects in criminal cases throughout the country, including ten unsolved assassinations and seventeen fire-bombings. Some of the better-known adherents of ul-Fuqra are Richard Reid, the shoe bomber, and John Allen Muhammad, the Beltway sniper. But what of Wahaj? Is he an exponent of radical Islam - - a man who poses a threat to millions of Americans?

He is a well-known and welcome figure in Washington, DC. He was the first Muslim cleric to offer the invocation at the opening session of Congress. He has dined with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and serves on the boards of no less than five major Muslim organizations.

He has received commendations from the Brooklyn police for eradicating crime from the Bedford-Stuyvesant area. In 2003, Siraj Wahaj Day was celebrated in Brooklyn in recognition of what one borough official called a “lifetime of outstanding and meaningful achievement.”

But the proof of the real Wahaj is in the proverbial pudding.

In one of his sermons, Wahaj announced that the “real terrorists” are the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Central Intelligence Agency. In another, he said, “In time, this so-called democracy will crumble, and there will be nothing. And the only thing that will remain will be Islam.” He proclaimed that a society governed by strict Islamic law, in which adulterers are stoned to death and apostates beheaded, would be vastly superior to American democracy.

To a Muslim audience in New Jersey, Wahaj advocated the idea of Muslims forming a coup to take control of the federal government. “If we are united and strong,” he said, “we’d elect our own emir [leader] and give allegiance to him. Take my word for it, if six to eight million Muslims are united in America, the country will come to us.”

His so-called “moderate” interpretation of the Qu’ran became clear by this remark: “If Allah says 100 strikes, 100 strikes it is. If Allah says cut off their hand, you cut off their hand. If Allah says stone them to death, through the Prophet Muhammad, then you stone them to death, because it’s the obedience of Allah and his messenger—nothing personal.”

And there are the national organizations to which Wahaj remains affiliated. He served as emir (president) of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), which has been charged with funneling millions to terror groups, and as an advisory board member of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which has been labeled by author and counter-terrorism expert Steven Emerson as a “radical fundamentalist front group for Hamas.”

All this may be well and good, save for the fact that Wahaj and his mosque retains a small army not of brown-shirts but black-belts who now claim the right to collar ordinary citizens on the sidewalk and to haul them off for interrogation.

Assualt at Iman Wahhij's Masjid At-Taqwa Mosque, Part II

One month after the first incident, reporters returned.

ASSAULT AND BATTERY AT A BROOKLYN MOSQUE: MUSLIM GOES BESERK AT REPORTER’S REAPPEARANCE

by Bos Smith

An irate member of Masjid al-Taqwa, a controversial mosque in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn, assaulted a reporter and attempted to break his camera.

“You can’t take my picture,” the Muslim screamed as he lurched at the reporter, pushed him into the street, and attempted to seize his camera. A swarm of Muslim men in Islamic garb emerged from the mosque to restrain their fellow congregant and to lead him away to a nearby exotic oil shop before blood was spilled.

This latest incident at Masjid al-Taqwa took place on Saturday, May 31, at 3:15 p.m. Several calls were made to the New York Police Department but the officer in charge of the on-going investigation of the Brooklyn mosque had not responded at the time of this article’s release.

Majid al-Taqwa, located at 1226 Bedford Street, is a concrete and brick building that once served as a clothing store. The interior is divided into spacious, windowless rooms that have been painted green and beige.

Before the outburst, the team of investigators was accosted by a street sentry named Muhammad, who watches over the entrance to the Islamic house of worship. Remembering the team from a previous incident, he yelled out, “You’re liars! Liars! Why are you putting out lies about us?’

Muhammad was referring to a story called “Escape from a Brooklyn Mosque” that was posted on Atlas Shrugs and ended up being carried by a host of leading news sources throughout the country, including National Review, The Weekly Standard, and Canada Free Press.

That story dealt with an incident that took place at the same mosque on April 19. On that occasion, the reporters were accosted by Mohammed and hauled off to the basement of the mosque for an interrogation by Ali Karim, the head of security at Masjid al-Taqwa.

“It was a hostile encounter,” Patrick Walsh, one of the members of the team recalls. “Karim was surrounded by a small army of Muslims in Ninja uniforms and they demanded answers to their questions before we were released.”

On this latest occasion, Mohammed pointed to the four security cameras at the entrance to the mosque and said: “We have everything on film. We are filming you right now.”

Along with the stationary cameras, four or five Muslim men appeared from the building with digital video cameras in hand. When one of our reporters responded by snapping his own pictures, the assailant – a pot-bellied man with a pony-tail and foreign accent – rushed toward him while yelling: “You can’t take my picture! You have no right to take my picture.”

The New York police have confirmed that several members of the Brooklyn mosque, including Ali Karim, are “bad actors” and “convicted felons.” Karim is a small, muscular man with a wispy black beard that has been dyed red with henna. He holds a 7th degree black belt in karate. At the mosque, Karim teaches classes in such subjects as Commando Warfare, Gun Techniques, Urban Survival Skills and Tactical Law Enforcement Techniques.

Reports have surfaced that Karim and his associates represent a small guerilla army in the midst of the Brooklyn ghetto. Bill Warner, a private investigator and regular contributor to this blog, commented that Bos Smith and his team were lucky to get out of the mosque alive.

The latest episode raises new concerns about the Masjid al-Taqwa and its imam Siraj Wahaj – concerns that have been intensified by confirmation from the NYPD that the mosque is “a subject of serious interest.”

The Organizing for America blog snapshot was taken from the corpus of like-minded documents collected by Atlas Shrugs. Atlas Shrugs posted the following:

Obama's Terrorism Against Jews: He Uses His Website to Incite Violence Against the Jews

More filth over at mybarackobama's website. No matter how many times I expose it, they keep it up, providing a forum for and the cultural acceptance of this incitement to Jewish genocide. Such vile hate would never have been allowed in polite and decent society 15 years ago. We are no longer decent? Hope and change folks, hope and change.

Do you think calls for end of Islam would stand? Racism against blacks? Would that stand?

During the 2008 presidential election, Barack Obama’s website, Organizing for America, hosted a series of vile anti-American, Jew-hating posts and pieces. The onslaught was overwhelming, and it included numerous, heinous calls for Jewish genocide and incitement to hatred. And it is happening again, right now, on the official website of the man who supposedly is the leader of the free world, and who has editorial control over the website.

THE TOGETHERNESS OF IMAN SIRAJ WAHHAJ AND IMAN BADAWI

Miss Martyr Camp at the Y By: Joe Kaufman
FrontPageMagazine.com | Friday, August 18, 2006

YMCA stands for Young Men’s Christian Association. That being the case, why would the athletic group allow an anti-Christian young Muslim girl’s organization to use their facilities for a jihad camp?

On the heels of their counterpart Young Muslims brotherhood’s secret camp, the Young Muslims Sisters (YMS) will be holding their own camp, today, August 18th through the 20th, at the most unlikely of places – Port Murray, New Jersey’s YMCA Camp Bernie. While the destination may be different, and the attire might have changed, the speakers at the event will be just as radical.

YMS is a subsidiary of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), a Muslim Brotherhood front that has, in the past, been investigated for possible ties to Al-Qaeda. Young Muslims, for many years, has held children’s camps through ICNA. Prior to the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the events were referred to as “Jihad Camps.”

One of the “Jihad Camps” took place only two weeks before 9/11. Three of the advertised invited speakers for the YMS happen to have been three of the featured speakers at the 9/11 camp. They are:

* Imam Siraj Wahhaj, the Imam of the Masjid At-Taqwa mosque in Brooklyn and a listed potential co-conspirator to the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. About the stoning of women accused of adultery, he stated, “If Allah says stone them to death, through the Prophet Muhammad, then you stone them to death, because it's the obedience of Allah and his messenger -- nothing personal.”

* Sheikh Ibrahim Negm, the Director of ICNA’s Islamic Learning Foundation. In his speech, entitled ‘The Passion of the Youth,’ which is found on the Young Muslims website, he indoctrinated his audience with an ultimatum, by repeating the bigoted statement, “With Islam youth are going to be something, but without Islam they are going to be nothing.”

* Dr. Obeydullah Choudry, the former President of the Muslim Students Association (MSA) at Rutgers University and one of the founders of Young Muslims. He tried to put a good face on the term “jihad” (holy war), when in his review of the book ‘Jihad in Islam,’ he stated, “The disbelievers were fought by the Muslims not for their disbelief but because they showed belligerence or hostility to the Islamic state,” and jihad “may be offensive, with Muslims taking the lead in averting the enemy's conspiracies and impending plots.”

Some of the other YMS invited speakers have expertise in teaching the concept of death to easily influenced young minds. One of them, Br. Nouman Ali Khan, a former MSA representative, gave a February 2005 speech sponsored by the MSA of Hofstra, entitled ‘Preparation for Death.’

Another, Sr. Iman Badawi gave a speech at a June 2003 camp sponsored by the Muslim American Society (MAS) of Minnesota, entitled ‘The Life in the Grave.’ One of her former campers had this to say about her, “…Iman Badawi and her wonderful style of talking about our deen [religion] always made our camps something else.

Sitting outside in the night while listening to one of her talks on death is something to remember…” Badawi, like Ali Khan, is also a former MSA representative. In March of 1997, she was one of two coordinators for the MSA East Zone Conference featuring Ali Al-Tamimi, an individual who received a life sentence for urging his followers, after 9/11, to join the Taliban and attack American troops.

More on Iman Siraj Wahhaj

CAIR and Wahhaj
October 20, 2009 by Bo Perrin

CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) has claimed to be a moderate Islamic group which had intimate ties with various Congresspeople as well as the FBI. Nevertheless, the Muslim Mafi, released this week, provides irrefutable evidence that CAIR is a terrorist front for the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt. Even if this book had not provided irrefutable evidence the people whom CAIR keeps company is a good indication that they are anything but moderate.

CAIR’s 15th Annual Banquet was October 16th, 2009 and the two key-note speakers were Jesse Jackson and Iman Siraj Wahhaj. Jesse Jackson is simply a fool but Wahhaj is a different story.

Iman Wahhaj was a unindicted person who may be alleged as co-conspirators in the 1993 World Trade bombing and who has intimate ties with the Blind Sheik who was indicted and convicted for the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. In addition, Iman Wahhaj calls for Muslims to rise up and create the Islamic Nation of North America by 2050. Finally, he also prostetizes youngs blacks in prison with firey speechs about fundamental Islam to convert more angry young people to his cause.

CAIR is not moderate and needs to be outlawed as a terrorist front.

“A radical New York imam who was once investigated as a possible co-conspirator in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center will share the stage Saturday night as a featured guest and speaker when the Council on American-Islamic Relations celebrates its 15th anniversary in Washington.

Siraj Wahhaj, imam of the Masjid Al-Taqwa mosque in Brooklyn, N.Y., became the first Muslim to lead the opening prayer in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1991. Four years later, he was a character witness for Omar Abdel-Rahman, the so-called “blind sheik” convicted of conspiring to bomb the World Trade Center in 1993. Although Wahhaj was never charged, then-U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White identified him in 1995 in a list of “unindicted persons who may be alleged as co-conspirators.”

Stephen Schwartz, executive director of the Center for Islamic Pluralism, a Washington-based think tank, calls Wahhaj one of the most prominent and strident African-American Islamic preachers in America.

“He’s a hatemonger, there’s no question about it,” Schwartz said. “He’s the No. 1 advocate of radical Islamic ideology among African-Americans. His stuff is very appealing to young Muslims who are on a radical path.” Schwartz identified Wahhaj — born in New York as Jeffrey Kearse — as a “leading radical Islamist” in “Black America, Prisons and Radical Islam,” a 2008 report by his organization. According to the report, which cited Federal Bureau of Prisons figures, some 175 titles of Wahhaj’s literature were found in prison libraries that year. Schwartz said Wahhaj’s writings seek to radicalize Muslims behind bars, particularly African-Americans. Saturday’s speech, he said, will likely appeal to Muslims who feel they’ve been targeted recently by conservatives.

“He’ll get up and say American Muslims are under attack, that their civil rights are being denied,” Schwartz said. “He’ll say that anybody who questions the community of these Muslim groups, that they’re agents of the Zionists. He’ll say that the criticism of CAIR, and of him, is all racism, the evil work of the Zionists and the media, and he’ll say that American should get out of Afghanistan and any involvement in the Muslim world.”

CAIR’s banquet, “Leading the Change: 15 Years of Service,” will be held Saturday night at the Marriott Crystal Gateway in Arlington, Va., just across the Potomac River from the Pentagon, where 125 people died during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization, said foreign affairs and “lessons learned” from the civil rights movement are potential issues to be covered at the event, which will be closed to the press — although members of the press are welcome to buy a $65 ticket and attend as guests.

“You can buy a ticket,” Hooper said. “Fox is free to come and harass us if you want.”

Asked what Wahhaj and Jackson plan to say in their speeches, Ibraham characterized the inquiries as attempts to make “an ordinary dinner” a reason “to tarnish us or harass us.”

“At some point,” Hooper said, “it becomes a level of harassment when we’re trying to exercise our civil rights as Americans.”

Multiple calls seeking comment from Jackson and Wahhaj, who was said to be traveling this week in advance of the banquet, were not returned.

Wahhaj, a former member of the Nation of Islam who reportedly once called the FBI and CIA the “real terrorists,” denied any involvement in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

“Law enforcement has never come to me and asked me any questions about any of these allegations,” Wahhaj told Foxnews.com last year. “I have never participated in any planning against this nation.”

Steven Emerson, executive director of The Investigative Project on Terrorism, said Wahhaj told a group of Muslims in New Jersey in 1992 that they could take over the country and institute a caliphate if they united.

“Brothers and sisters, if we unite, nobody can stop us,” Wahhaj said, according to material provided by Emerson. “You wouldn’t have to vote for Bush or Clinton … If we were united and strong, we’d elect our own emir and give allegiance to him. …

“Take my word, [if] 6 to 8 million Muslims unite in America, the country will come to us. Strong Muslims, strong and free, firm believers in Allah, I’m telling you, the rest of the world will come to the Muslims.”

Emerson said Wahhaj, whom he described as a “full-fledged” radical, will tone down his rhetoric on such a stage.

“He’ll obviously be careful,” Emerson said. “They know he’s being watched. He’ll talk about how CAIR is under attack, Muslims are under attack, his typical spiel.”

Louay Safi, director of communications and leadership development at the Islamic Society of North America, defended Wahhaj, a former member of the group’s board of directors, as a “sought-after speaker” among Muslim circles.

“He’s a very popular motivational speaker,” Safi told Foxnews.com. “The sad thing is that the public is only allowed to see him through the veil of an unindicted co-conspirator. He has been charged in the press.”

Safi urged Wahhaj’s critics to consider context while reviewing his controversial statements in the past.

“Remember, he is a motivational speaker,” he continued. “If you take statements by anyone, from the president to congressmen to anyone else, you can take one sentence out of context.”

Safi also credited Wahhaj’s work in revitalizing the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, where in 2003, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz declared Aug. 15 “Imam Siraj Wahhaj Day” in honor of a lifetime of “outstanding and meaningful” achievement.

“He’s done a lot of good work in his community, clearing the area of drug addicts and trying to foster a great sense of community,” Safi said. “He’s done a lot of good work in the New York area.”"
