Dems at risk of losing Obama's old Senate seat
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | 11/15/09 | Lynn Sweet

About a year ago, thousands jammed Grant Park in Chicago to celebrate Barack Obama's election to the White House, a communal civic defining moment. But those giddy days are long gone as Democrats in Illinois face the potential of losing the Senate seat President Obama once held next November. * * * Democratic Party leaders in Washington -- and the Obama White House -- failed to recruit a candidate strong enough to scare Rep. Mark Kirk -- the Republicans' best bet -- from the race. The only luck they had was the decision by Sen. Roland Burris -- appointed by now-indicted former Gov. Rod Blagojevich to fill Obama's remaining term -- not to run to keep the seat.

And if we're lucky in 1012 Dems will be at risk of losing Obama's old Oval Office

"Kirk is a douche bag, but I am going with anything is better."

But, "is he a clean d-bag?" is the question. If the Dems are really in jeopardy of losing this seat, it's katy-bar-the-door on the dirty tricks they'll pull. Just ask Jack Ryan. If Kirk has any skeletons in his closet, they'll come out.

Did you happen to catch the part of the ad that says - "This ad paid for by XXXXX"? Because of campaign-finance laws, they have to disclose the name of the 501C-3 that's paying for the ad. Once you have that, the public filings generally allow you to find out the names behind the organization, FWIW.

Kirk’s ex-wife: ‘He’ll make a great senator’
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Tuesday, July 21, 2009
Author: Abdon M. Pallasch, The Chicago Sun-Times

U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk was asked Monday if he talked with state Republican leaders about whether his recent divorce could cause problems for his campaign.

“We opened up our divorce records,” Kirk said. “Many members of the media have come to see them.”

Then he looked around for his ex-wife, Kimberly Vertolli. She walked up behind him, leaned her head over his shoulder and said, “I support him 100 percent. He’ll make a great senator.”

She gently patted his left shoulder and walked away.

LOL at the end of the article. Controversy?

Kirk, billed as a moderate, was caught up in a controversy last week when news leaked out that he solicited Sarah Palin for support.

I agree on that. If Kirk is the nominee, the RATs are only in danger of "losing" on paper. In reality, Kirk is a defacto Democrat and will be Harry Reid's 61st vote in the Senate. It's a net gain for the Dems, since Kirk's "bipartisan" support for Obama's agenda will be much more effective for their cause than our current tainted lame duck RAT Senator Roland Burris is. Check Kirk's voting record (pro-abortion on demand, pro-banning all guns, pro-gay marriage, pro-amnesty, pro-TARP, pro-cap n' trade, anti-Iraq surge, just voted in favor of transferring terrorists out of Gitmo, etc.) He's so liberal he's actually to the left of over a dozen DEMOCRAT Illinois state legislators.

Pro TARP? Hell even George W Bush was for TARP. So was Cheney.
So was McCain and Palin......NONE of them voiced opposition to TARP. It was the politically “correct” thing to do at the time.

I don’t care about Kirk’s social agenda....I am mostly concerned about where does he stand on fiscal conservatism such as reducing/eliminating budget deficits, tax cuts for small businesses etc.

Depends upon whether or not amnesty is passed.

My impression is that most illegals already here are voting, facilitated via ACORN. If that's correct, amnesty will only affect things to the extent that MORE immigrants would come in. And Baraq's crappy economy certainly doesn't incentivize that.

The vote in the Senate to pass TARP was 74-26. Obviously some Republican Senators have a backbone. Of course it Kirk was there it would have been 75-25.

>> I don’t care about Kirk’s social agenda....I am mostly concerned about where does he stand on fiscal conservatism such as reducing/eliminating budget deficits, tax cuts for small businesses etc.

Does this help?

- Kirk votes with Taxpayers for Common Sense 33% of the time
- Kirk votes with The Club for Growth 19% of the time (9 / 48 votes)
- Kirk votes with Citizens for Tax Justice 17% of the time
- Kirk voted NO to HJ Res. 3-Releasing Funds for Economic Stabilization Act (this act was sponsored by Republicans after the first 300 billion dollars went unaccounted for to block the remaining funds from being released without oversight)
- Kirk voted YES on Cap-n-Trade ( the ONLY Republican member of the Illinois congressional delegation that voted yes!) [HR 2454]
-- Kirk voted YES on Democrat Charlie Rangel’s 90 percent bonus tax
-- Kirk voted YES on H.R.2 - the Democrat's SCHIP Program-basically an expansion of welfare (includes $1 tax on cigarettes to "fund" the program)
-- Kirk voted to approve nearly $200 million for the Air Force to purchase three luxury aircraft for ferrying top government office and Members of Congress.
-- Kirk claims in public that he opposes all congressional earmarks, but he earmarked at least $5 million, each, in his limousine liberal district (the wealthiest in Illinois), for HUD, Head Start, local police departments, and commuter trains
-- Kirk is one of only two Republicans in Congress NOT to co-sponsor auditing the Federal reserve.

BillyBoy, is anyone else (I mean republican or conservative) who is running for the Senate seat? Will there be a repub primary? Will we have a choice besides Kirk?
