US President Barack Obama will meet his half-brother Mark Ndesandjo and his sister-in-law during his first official visit to China.
Ndesandjo and his Chinese wife set off for Beijing on Friday from their home in Shenzhen - a southern city neighbouring Hong Kong - to prepare for Obama's arrival, a spokeswoman for AmCham in South China said.
"It will be the first time for Mark to introduce his wife to President Obama," the spokeswoman said.
Ndesandjo told China's state-run Xinhua news agency that he wanted his wife, who is from the central eastern province of Henan, to meet the US president as "she is one of Obama's loyal fans".
Ndesandjo, son of Obama's late father and his third wife, Ruth Nidesand, also said that he was delighted that the president was taking the opportunity to see China for himself during his first visit to Asia.
"I am very glad that he is coming here himself to experience Chinese culture," he was quoted as saying.
Having lived in China for seven years and speaking fluent Putonghua, Ndesandjo said at the launch of his first novel earlier this month that he hoped Obama would appreciate the importance Chinese people attach to family.
"I would encourage not only my brother, President Obama, but also American people, [to understand] that China is about family. Family is a recurrent theme here," he said in his first address to the media since Obama was elected last year.
The half-brother, who reportedly runs a business consultancy in Shenzhen, last met Obama when he visited the United States during the presidential election.
At the book launch, Ndesandjo also spoke of his relationship with his abusive father and how Obama's election victory helped him come to terms with his unhappy childhood.

Somehow the idea that the Destruction of my country’s economy, borders, culture, way of life, peace, and security to provide Obama with some kind of “therapy” for his unhappy childhood does not offer me much comfort or consolation.

Everytime I see MO, I think of women in Renaissance paintings with their high waisted dresses - looking very pregnant. That used to be viewed as a good thing - women being with child I mean.

I’m left wondering if this president has any American relatives. Call me a conspiracy theorist if you like, but it seems unusual to me that he apparently has no blood kin who are from here.
You know, you’re right about that. Most of his half-brothers live in Africa, this brother lives in China, and his sister Maya lives in Indonesia. I never thought about it like that. They are ALL not American. You never hear anything at all about his family - those who may live here in the United States, I mean. It is odd for a person to have no family that they see on holidays or special occasions. Michelle’s family is the only family connection he seems to have. Brings to mind the question - WHO does Obama have any real familial ties to? Who does he share a family kinship with? Does he have any bonds or closeness with anyone?
China is OUT-caring the “millionaire” Obama. That Nation has moved the 1st 1/2 Brother out of an African Slum.
I expect China to invite & adopt “Aunt Zytonie” NEXT.
