Everyone in Britain could be given a personal 'carbon allowance'
The Daily Telegraph ^ | 11/09/09 | Unknown

Everyone in Britain should have an annual carbon ration and be penalised if they use too much fuel, the head of the Environment Agency will say.

Lord Smith of Finsbury believes that implementing individual carbon allowances for every person will be the most effective way of meeting the targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

It would involve people being issued with a unique number which they would hand over when purchasing products that contribute to their carbon footprint, such as fuel, airline tickets and electricity.

If their "carbon account" hits zero, they would have to pay to get more credits.

Those who are frugal with their carbon usage will be able to sell their unused credits and make a profit.

Lord Smith will call for the scheme to be part of a "Green New Deal" to be introduced within 20 years when he addresses the agency's annual conference on Monday.

An Environment Agency spokesman said only those with "extravagant lifestyles" would be affected by the carbon allowances.

He said: "A lot of people who cycle will get money back. It will probably only be bankers and those with extravagant lifestyles who would lose out."

However, some have criticised the move as "Orwellian" and say it will have a detrimental impact on business...

And yet...

An Environment Agency spokesman said only those with "extravagant lifestyles" would be affected by the carbon allowances.

So, the rich will be affected the most but only they could afford to buy more credits if their account goes to zero. "Orwellian"? Definitely. Fascistic? Oh yeah.

I believe Anatole France observed that the Law forbids both the rich and the poor from sleeping under bridges. The point being that the rich don't have any reason to care about that law, and only the poor feel the sting of it.

The rich will pay for whatever carbon they choose to use -- it won't be a bother. But the poor will likely experience a real decrease in the quality of their lives. The Greens pretend to care about the Earth and about the Little Guy, but in reality their care for neither.

We all know globull warming is nonsense but if we really needed carbon limits, this would be the way to go about it, follow the money.

How about we have a lifetime allowance for carbon credits? That will open up all kinds of possibilities...for example, women can sell babys’ lifetime allotment when they abort them for the good of environment; encourage euthanasia, allowing a person to sell their credits in exchange for death on a date certain; pre-mature death...the credits would go to the estate, taxed at 100%, of course, to pay for universal health care...the possibilities are endless.

Extravagant lifestyles: That's progressive code for anyone leading a life above Third World status.

In Britain, the march to serfdom continues apace...

The governments want total submission. In America - we're going to have to submit to health care or be imprisoned for our disobedience.

Islam also stands for "submission". The British government, the American government, and the Islamic governments all seem to think the same way - force the people to submit and obey. Punish them well for their liberty and disobedience.

It would be a double win for the lefties. Make the country poorer and see the rich i.e. job makers leave while adding another huge bureaucracy to the system. Libs and Dems in America are getting very jealous.

It would appear that some in England wish to return to the Dickensian era with this new carbon tax.

Please sir, may I have some more carbon?

These folks are going through a lot of trouble for something based on a false premise. It is kind of funny to watch imbeciles in power. It looks like the court jester has been promoted to chief scientist.

Everyone on this planet experiences weather change caused by interaction between water in its various forms and the Sun. Water vapor is the greenhouse gas that you experience every day.

Climate change is a result of gradual changes in weather conditions over a period of years. Carbon dioxide is a trace gas that only alchemists can somehow blame for climate change.

It is truly amazing to see so many make such fools of themselves by taking superstition to a new height.

It has always been about the money.

If they called it a tax increase, they'd be run out of town. The tax slaves are already making their bricks without straw. So, instead, they just use the environment to call it something else. They just put a different mask on it and call it pretty.
Oboma has been doing this crap since day one. He hasn't been honest about anything yet. He probably never will be. All he's done so far is steal a record amount of money from the U.S. population. He has lots of pretty masks and wonderful names to put on it, though.

The guy who built our house lost $200 K in worthless GM bonds. Most of his life savings.

Why not just have a lottery to pick those who will be killed in an environmentally friendly way to reduce over all carbon emissions. You will have 24 hours to report to the disintegration chamber nearest you.

Would the number be "666" by any chance?

And the real tragedy is that the majority of greens really and honestly believe this is all for the good. They cannot process that kind of logic.
