1. Records indicate that between 4/15/2009 and 5/18/2009 US states reported the deaths of 6 pregnant women. The record for Judy Trunnel indicates that she was the first American to die. Given that she died on 5/5/2009 one might assume the others died between 5/5 and 5/18. The other 5 are listed below (Lines # 2 – 5). Where names are not available, placeholders have been added. Source: http://infectious-diseases.jwatch.org/cgi/content/full/2009/805/1

2. A recent report by the CDC indicates that 28 pregnant women died: The 28 deaths occurred between the emergence of the strain in late April and the end of August. As we do not have 28 women who died between April and August, placeholders have been added. Source: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/01/AR2009100104308.html

10. 6/17/2009: Amber Hodge, 18 (Cleveland, Ohio) – 8 mths pregnant – baby delivered by emergency c-section
It’s still hard for the family of 18 year-old Amber Hodge to believe that their young, vibrant daughter, died of the H1N1 virus in her eighth month of pregnancy. The Cleveland teen died at Metro Health Medical Center in June, after what she thought was a cold, moved to her lungs, and killed her. “I don’t know where it came from and then I worry about my other kids, I worry about the baby, you know,” said Teresa Armstrong, Amber’s mother. Armstrong is now raising her daughter’s baby girl. Doctors delivered the baby in an emergency c-section while Amber was in a medically induced coma and on a ventillator. She died of H1N1 six days later, without ever meeting her daughter.

Pregnant woman died of H1N1 in June in Cuyahoga County: CLEVELAND — Following Thursday’s news that a pregnant Columbus woman died of the H1N1 virus, Channel 3 has learned that an 18-year-old pregnant woman died here in Cuyahoga County on June 17.Cleveland Department of Health Director Matt Carroll tells WKYC that a positive diagnosis of her cause of death was just reached within the last week, and that the woman died of H1N1.”When the woman was first seen for her illness, a quick test showed negative results for H1N1,” Carroll said. He said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted further tests after her death and concluded that she died from complications of H1N1.Carroll would not identify the woman but said she was a resident of the City of Cleveland and died at a hospital in Cuyahoga County. He did not know whether her baby survived. The confirmation of her death from H1N1 brings to three the number of confirmed H1N1 deaths in Ohio. 13. 6/26/2009: Latoya Riley, 25: (Delray Beach/Palm Beach County, Florida) – 7 months pregnant
5-week-old born before his mother died of swine flu clings to life at Boynton hospital - Palm Beach Post Staff Writer - Tuesday, July 21, 2009 - BOYNTON BEACH — Inside baby Brice’s incubator, nurses have placed a picture of the mother who will never hold him. It’s a child’s school picture, all her aunt could find in the grief-filled days immediately after Latoya Riley of Delray Beach succumbed to swine flu on June 26. Baby James “Brice” Lamarr Baisden Jr. was delivered prematurely on June 17, hours after his mother was admitted to Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach, nearly seven months pregnant and feverish. Riley, 25, fell into a coma that night, and died nine days later. The day care worker had become Palm Beach County’s first victim of the pandemic H1N1 flu strain. She never did manage to hold her little boy, her third son. But her picture watches over him, an angel dressed in a Sunday-school blue dress. Today, baby Brice is doing better and has gained weight, up from 2.7 pounds to over 3 pounds, said Gladys Clinton, the aunt who had raised Latoya. Clinton said it gives her happiness to see her sister’s grandson kicking and stretching his long, thin limbs as he grows stronger under the care of the nurses at Bethesda Memorial’s neonatal intensive care unit. “They told me she had pneumonia. It was only later the health department called and said she had H1N1,” Clinton said, standing next to the baby’s incubator during a visit on Tuesday. Baby Brice clutched her finger. He gazed up at her in recognition, sucking at the tube in his mouth. Source: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/co...xsvc=7&cxcat=6

18. 8/11/2009: Katie Flyte, 27 (Puyallup, Washington) – c-section
H1N1 Mom Dies Without Seeing Daughter: The woman diagnosed with H1N1 virus, who gave birth while under a medically-induced coma, has died. Katie Flyte, a 27-year-old mother from Puyallup, Wash., passed away on Tuesday from complications from H1N1. Flyte started experiencing flu-like symptoms about six weeks ago, but three different tests missed it. Katie’s husband, Kenny Flyte, appeared on “The Early Show” in July, saying the virus would have been caught if doctors would have used a more expensive test to detect the virus. And he returned to the show Thursday saying “not one doctor threw up a red flag” that his wife should have been tested for H1N1. In recent weeks, Katie developed pneumonia, a complication of the virus, and gave birth to the couple’s daughter by a Cesarean section without knowing it. She died, Kenny said, without once seeing her daughter, Abbey. Kenny said with tears in his eyes, “She’s in a better place now, looking down on (Abbey).”

20. 8/26/2009: Melissa McDaniel, 29 (Modesto, CA) – last days of pregnancy

MODESTO - Another victim of the H1-N1 virus, it killed a Modesto woman just days after she gave birth. 29-year old Melissa McDaniel became the fifth swine flu victim in Stanislaus county this year. Her family says her battle the virus came in the last days of her pregnancy, with her going in and out of the hospital. Her mom, Patricia Shehan says “H1-N1 really messed up her kidneys, her lungs, her heart, and she fought for a month”. Most expectant women deal with a lot of high risk during pregnancy but for Melissa when swine flu entered her body, it provide too much to handle. It even gave her family a learning lesson on how server of a punch H1-N1 can hit the body. Source: http://www.fox40.com/news/headlines/...,1015448.story

McDaniel, 29, of Modesto, died last Wednesday at Memorial Medical Center, six weeks after giving birth to a 7-pound, 3-ounce girl…. According to her family, McDaniel was not visibly ill with the flu before having a C-section July 17. (Her doctors are unable to discuss her case because of patient confidentiality laws.) After returning home, McDaniel had abdominal pain and a cough, and noticed pus from the surgery wound, said her stepfather, Clifford Koen. She was taken back to Memorial, told everything was normal and discharged, Koen said. When she woke up the next morning, she was having trouble breathing and had a fever. She was taken to the hospital again. “She was conscious for maybe two or three days, and then she was in a coma from then on,” Koen said. “We went to see her every day, talked with her and told her the things that were going on at home.” Doctors told the family they suspected a variety of illnesses and then a test came back positive for swine flu, the family said. McDaniel also had an underlying heart condition, the family was told. Her kidneys had failed and her heart was pumping at about 20 percent capacity before she died last week, the family said. In 2003 the CDC starting claiming that 36,000 people a year died from regular flu. This number is constantly compared to the current pandemic to persuade people not to “panic” or be concerned. Where did this number come from?

According to twenty years’ worth of “cause of death” reporting data from the National Center for Health Statistics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, influenza is the official cause of death for an average of 1,263 people in the United States each year. Indeed, the CDC’s most recent official tally of death by influenza indicates that only 849 people died of influenza in 2006. These very low numbers would seem to contradict the often cited figure of “36,000 flu-related deaths per year” in the United States, which appears on the CDC’s own web site.”

The 36,000 number comes from statistical modeling; comparing pneumonia or other similar deaths in the winter and summer. It is not derived from numbers of people known to have died from flu, or people tested for flu, or even generalized lists of people dying from flu. Additionally, 95% of flu deaths are of people above the age of 65, and most are even older. They are people who are already near death from others causes, seem to get sick with “something” and die.
On the other hand, the people really dying from swine flu are mostly younger people, many of who are perfectly healthy. It is true that swine flu is easier to catch as no one has ever had it before and therefore has no immunity to it.

#30’s first name was Tracy and leaves a 25 yr old husband with a new born, set of 3 year old twins and a 5 yr old. RIP. She was a friend of my nieces. I think she may have had asthma.

My daughter, 11, had the flu and a 104 degree temp. Her doctor's office said to take Motrin and rest. If the fever went up, head to the ER. After about a week, a cough developed. The doctor said they'd monitor her because the cough could develop into pneumonia. It didn't. She's fine now and they suspect swine flu due to symptoms. She wasn't in a high risk group and they said the side effects from Tami flu would be worse than the actual flu. The other 3 of us in the household got what I would call a "bad cold" and that was it.

but there was a swine flu break out in the 70’s. I remember more people died from the shot than from the swine flu. Here is a medical commercialhttp://www.tmz.com/2009/04/29/swine-

flu-the-70s-edition/http://www.capitalcentury.com/1976.html from that time.

http://www.in.gov/itpc/files/smoking...uenza_itpc.pdf
Smoking identified as a risk factor for
epidemic A(h1n1) influenza over 25 years ago!
An outbreak of A(H1N1) influenza was studied in an
Israeli military unit of 336 healthy young men in 1982
to determine the relation of cigarette smoking to the
incidence of influenza. Half of the men were smokers.
68.5% of smokers had influenza, as compared with
47% of nonsmokers. Influenza was also more severe
in the smokers; 51% of the smokers lost work days or
required bed rest, or both, as compared with 30% of
the nonsmokers.
A quarter of all severe illness from influenza in the
overall study population was attributable to smoking.
Researchers concluded that smoking is a major
determinant of disease in epidemic influenza and may
contribute substantially to incapacitation in outbreaks
in populations that smoke heavily.
.....
There IS a connection…
• Research shows an increase in influenza (flu) infections
among smokers compared to nonsmokers.
• Influenza cases are often more severe in smokers, and
there is a higher mortality rate for smokers than
nonsmokers from influenza.
• Smoking is causally related to chronic coughing and
wheezing, bronchitis and emphysema in adults.
• Smokers contract upper and lower respiratory tract
infections more frequently than nonsmokers.
• Inhaling secondhand smoke also makes lungs more
susceptible to respiratory infections and illness.
• Children and infants exposed to secondhand smoke in the
home have dramatically higher levels of respiratory
symptoms, respiratory tract infections, and slower lung
development.

I don’t know why you claim that ‘nobody’ has ever had swine flu before now. It was the predominant form of flu until sometime in the 1950’s. I probably had it when I was a baby.
