MOGADISHU, Somalia – Gunmen have killed a top Somali judge who had sentenced many pirates and human traffickers to long jail terms, the security minister for northern Somalia said Thursday.

Mohamed Said Samatar said three men were arrested Thursday over the killing of High Court Judge Mohamed Abdi Aware. In addition to jailing suspected pirates, Aware also recently jailed four members of Somalia's Islamic insurgency.

Eyewitness Mohamud Dahir said masked men with pistols shot the judge in the head and chest several times as he left a mosque Wednesday evening in the port city of Bossaso.

"These gangs hate him for his justice. We suspect one of them may have something to do with his assassination," said Aware's cousin, Abdulahi Jama.

Aware was also a member of Puntland's Supreme Judicial Council, which supervises the judiciary and nominates senior judicial officials.

Goes to show you that these dudes should be shot on the high seas. Then the sharks would be happy.

I had to open the article to figure out what the headline was trying to say.

Islamic terrorists think it’s okay to kill a Muslim judge who stands up for law and order, but it’s not okay to for a US soldier kill a terrorist who wants to kill Americans. Why is this not surprising?

Evidence that not all of these thugs are about following Islamic law and jihad. They only want power and use Islam as a front.

That is not to say there aren't many who kill for Islam and for jihad but they, too, want power and control - over everyone.

You're not getting it. The judge was killed for being an apostate, for NOT following Islamic law.

It is the PIRATES who are faithfully following Islamic law, waging Jihad against infidel shipping, and collecting jizya from the infidels. By punishing Muslims for following Islam, the judge became an apostate, and was liable for being killed by any Muslim with the opportunity to do so.

Sympathy for another brave man who took on the jihad.

The unsung heroes of our time, like the anti Talib mayor of Peshawar, Pakistan, recently blown up.

True, but they have to get the leaders; pirates and assassins are a dime a dozen.

I wonder if there are any endangered species of shark that we can feed. Plus, the carbon footprint of the pirates will be eliminated and their bodies recycled for a purpose.

See, Republicans can be Green too!

The article said the judge was killed as he was leaving a mosque. Why would an apostate be attending a mosque?
