Fort Hood shootings suspect may have wired money to Pakistan

Authorities have been examining whether Fort Hood massacre suspect Nidal Malik Hasan wired money to Pakistan in recent months, an action that one senior lawmaker said would raise serious questions about Hasan's possible connections to militant Islamic groups.

Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich., said sources "outside of the [intelligence] community" learned about Hasan's possible connections to the Asian country, which faces a massive Islamist insurgency and is widely believed to be Osama bin Laden's hiding place.

Hoekstra, the ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, would not identify the sources. But he said "they are trying to follow up on it because they recognize that if there are communications – phone or money transfers with somebody in Pakistan – it just raises a whole other level of questions."

Much remains unknown about the 39-year-old Hasan, born in Virginia to Palestinian immigrants. He lived alone near the Army base in Killeen, Texas, and would sometimes use a neighbor's computer even though he had his own.

Okay, but I want to know how much he contributed to Obama last year and Kerry in 2004...

Hindsight is often 20/20 but the red flags in this case seem to be numerous enough to cover a small town.

Next they'll find his bill board sized, "Kill American infidel dogs" sign, illuminated by aircraft landing lights, on top of his apartment building.

These guys don't miss anything.

The more I find out about this guy, the more I begin to think the army is... clueless?

Seems incredible this could happen with all the warning signs.

Anyone here in the know about the armed services leadership—have you heard if this terror act has angered them enough to action? Have they begun a behind the scenes strict watch of all muslims in US service?

Please tell me they are doing something. Or do we have massive leadership failure everywhere now?

I bet there are hundreds in the U.S. that match his profile exactly. They need to be rounded up and put in jail for conspiracy.

Political Correctness kills.

I’m glad the FBI immediately knew this was not ‘terrorism’, as no white, right-wing, constitutionalists were involved (except presumably as victims).

I don’t have the link, but I read in the UK news that hasan used his neighbor’s internet connection, not computer. The neighbor said hasan woke him up twice that last night for that. Later hasan told him he wished he was online more often.

Correct. He called his neighbor in the middle of the night, in the hours before the shooting, to tell him to turn on his wireless connection. The FBI confiscated his neighbor's laptop. The neighbor played dumb.

He was using his neighbor's internet connection either because he was too cheap to pay for his own service, or to avoid detection, bringing up the question of whether he knew that his emails to Awlaki had been monitored by the JTTF while he was at Walter Reed.
