Blame game erupts over probe of Fort Hood suspect

Finger-pointing erupted between federal agencies Tuesday over Fort Hood shooting suspect Nidal Hasan. Government officials said a Defense Department terrorism investigator looked into Hasan's contacts with a radical imam months ago, but a military official denied prior knowledge of the Army psychiatrist's contacts with any Muslim extremists.

The two government officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case on the record, said the Washington-based joint terrorism task force overseen by the FBI was notified of communications between Hasan and a radical imam overseas, and the information was turned over to a Defense Criminal Investigative Service employee assigned to the task force. The communications were gathered by investigators beginning in December 2008 and continuing into early this year.

That Defense investigator wrote up an assessment of Hasan after reviewing the communications and the Army major's personnel file, according to these officials. The assessment concluded Hasan did not merit further investigation - in large part because his communications with the imam were centered on a research paper about the effects of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and the investigator determined that Hasan was in fact working on such a paper, the officials said.

The disclosure came as questions swirled about whether opportunities were missed to head off the massacre in which 13 died and 29 were wounded last Thursday - a familiar, early stage in the investigation of headline-grabbing crimes when public officials involved in a case often speak anonymously as they try to shift any blame to rivals in other agencies.(continued)

There has to be someone, somewhere in our government that has a shred of competence and honor left.

Maybe an old white guy down in some dark basement will come out and make sense of this, and maybe start the movement to bring some rationality and anti-political correctness back into the US government.

If the "authorities" will not, or can not....it will ultimately be up to "we the people" to straighten things out.

The good Muslims in America will have to suffer because of the violent ones. Americans must step up efforts to find the bad guys, which means prying into the lives of all Muslims, and there will be profiling. Also, you can’t blame scared Americans for having fear and anger toward Muslims. These are facts that must be accepted and not whined about. Efforts must be increased to find the terrorists among us. Americans don’t need more simplistic “Muslims are mostly good people” lectures. Americans understand what happened at Fort Hood. Anger over this is nothing to be ashamed about. We should be outraged and should demand action and not just a blame game. Terrorist cultures are not going to come into this country and blow us up. We must be terrorists to the terrorists. They must fear for their lives.

This isn’t the blame game, it’s the CYA game. Face it, our government is not only expensive, it’s incompetent. I hope I didn’t offend any Muslims.

Well the Ranking House member of the Intelligence Committee...Peter Hoekstra is pissed....he asked for info from the Intelligence arm of the Executive branch and they said sorry...see the thread I just linked above.

Thread contains link to another thread which has this little jewel :

***********************

Hoekstra sent a letter Saturday to intelligence chiefs, including Director of National Intelligence Dennis C. Blair, raising the possibility that "serious issues exist with respect to the performance of U.S. intelligence agencies." He asked that all documents and materials connected to the shootings be preserved, saying that the Obama administration "is in possession of critical information related to the attack that they are refusing to release to Congress."

If Hasan was not part of a protected minority, he would have been gone long ago.

Political Correctness will be the death of this country.
