Golf balls: 'Humanity's signature litter' (Now Golf Is Going to Kill Us All)

London, England (CNN) -- Research teams at the Danish Golf Union have discovered it takes between 100 to 1,000 years for a golf ball to decompose naturally. A startling fact when it is also estimated 300 million balls are lost or discarded in the United States alone, every year. It seems the simple plastic golf ball is increasingly becoming a major litter problem.

The scale of the dilemma was underlined recently in Scotland, where scientists -- who scoured the watery depths in a submarine hoping to discover evidence of the prehistoric Loch Ness monster -- were surprised to find hundreds of thousands of golf balls lining the bed of the loch.

It is thought tourists and locals have used the loch as an alternative driving range for many years. The footage shot by underwater robotics team SeaTrepid, can be seen below.

With an increasing number of golf balls discarded each year, the Danish Golf Association devised a number of tests to determine the environmental impact of golf balls on their surroundings...

Yet another thing in our lives that the environuts claim will kill us all. This is long past the "getting old" stage. And these people wonder why everyone else is beginning to take them less and less seriously.

I’m clean and green. When I go searching for a lost ball I always find more in the woods than I’ve lost. My storage bins in the garage prove it. When Pelosi, Waxman, et. al. impose a golfball cap and trade law I’ll be golden.

300 million golf balls lost each year, that sounds about right for me.

Gee, I never ‘discard’ my golf balls intentionally...

For ONCE, I’d like to see the equivalent of the LEFT solution applied to those on the right. Instead of banning golf balls, we should setup a Department of Golf and pour billions into making sure every golfer had access to free or greatly discounted golf instruction so there would be fewer lost golf balls. I know I’d be all for this solution, as I tend to spray my drives in every direction.

Assign every golfer a team of Secret Service caddies who can find every shank into the woods and kick it back down the fairway.

Obama’s blueprint—Stalin: Man of Steel

You want to see where this will all lead?

View this video from the web on Stalin. You won’t be able to take your eyes away.My wish would be that you would pass this on to others. As many as you can. The similarities to Obama are mind blowing

This looks like a move toward taxing all golfers for environmental pollution. When will the madness end?
SHEESH!

For every golf ball that I lose, I find two. I give all the “found balls” to Junior Golf here in Florida. What the kids do with the balls is their problem. My conscious is clear. /s

It was found that during decomposition, the golf balls dissolved to release a high quantity of heavy metals. Dangerous levels of zinc were found in the synthetic rubber filling used in solid core golf balls.

So now this zinc is part of the environment of earth. That's horrible.

Where'd the zinc come from in the first place? Pluto?

"...estimated 300 million balls are lost or discarded in the United States..."

I do not like foreigners referencing anything American-related, and by inference acting as if they have an interest or stake in my country. They do not.

Foreigners need to butt out of our business. We do not need their assistance, be it environmental-related, golf ball-related, etc.

They are not lost. They can be found in and around golf courses. I know children that go out and get them and sell them to golfers as extras.

I’d say, the golf ball is the most recycled object ever invented. It can be used by a long list of people for its original intent.
