Officials: U.S. Aware of Hasan Efforts to Contact al Qaeda
ABC News ^ | 11/9/2009 | Richard Esposito

Posted on 11/09/2009 4:15:57 AM PST by Saije

U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.

It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.

One senior lawmaker said the CIA had, so far, refused to brief the intelligence committees on what, if any, knowledge they had about Hasan's efforts.

CIA director Leon Panetta and the Director of National Intelligence, Dennis Blair, have been asked by Congress "to preserve" all documents and intelligence files that relate to Hasan, according to the lawmaker.

On Sunday, Senator Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) called for an investigation into whether the Army missed signs as to whether Hasan was an Islamic extremist.

"If Hasan was showing signs, saying to people that he had become an Islamist extremist, the U.S. Army has to have a zero tolerance," Lieberman told Fox News Sunday.

Yeah, no terrorism here. You need to involve architecture for that, a building, or at least a plane. This guy could have shot 3000 people and they’d still be calling him a whackjob, as long as he didn’t leave a cloud.

What a fiasco! We have to keep someone in the military who is out to kill us because if we kick him out, we may be sued for discrimination. The blood of those killed is on the ones who made that decision as much as on the shooter. You can’t expect to invite a wolf into your house, keep it there, and not get hurt.

But you can have "both". The history of Islamofascist terrorism is filled with stories of the mentally retarded, those serious depressed, and children simply being "sold out", given a suicide vest, and sent out to kill people.

This guy was a member of the same mosque as two of the 9/11 hijackers.

No doubt the FBI/CIA/HD/VA state police/DEA/ and a vast host of other federal and state investigators will be cruising through this very neighborhood over the next few weeks doing "one more interview" ~ will be interesting.

Not nearly strong enough... how about "a poor Army doctor who snapped under the stress of 8 years of an endless war against all Muslims started by the Constitution-shredding Bush and the tea bagger neocons? Remember, it's not a lie if you believe it. ;-)

You are assuming anyone was interested in kicking this guy out. As long as he had no idea they were watching him to see who he was meeting, where he was going, and so forth, he became an intelligence "asset".

Obviously someone screwed up, he found out, his handlers then sent him out to kill people.

“If Hasan was showing signs, saying to people that he had become an Islamist extremist, the U.S. Army has to have a zero tolerance,” Lieberman told Fox News Sunday.

There has to be zero tolerance for politically correct careerists in the U.S. Military. This is akin to sending your troops into a combat zone without proper intelligence as to the probable location of enemy combatants. Heads need to roll in Fort Hood and perhaps much further up the chain of command.

Look at the angle these articles are taking. 1. Hasan is the victim. Or, 2. If he isn’t the victim, he still shouldn’t be blamed for his terrorist acts—the military should be blamed.

There is litle difference here. He was left alone because it endengered their own position to try to get rid of him. This is the problem with politically correctness. The fear of retaliation when trying fire or remove one of the chosen class.

This makes Hasan’s involvement in that Obama transition thing even more interesting. And raises another question: If Hasan was an Islamist terrorist-in-waiting, was the Fort Hood shooting his goal all along, or had he been doing something else and chose to end with this atrocity for another reason?

Hasan was a 39 year old doctor....and he didn't even have a girlfriend? Had to go to strip clubs?

I have a theory about the Muslim jihadists we've been fighting for the past 30 years....I think they do it because they have no luck with women.

Take a look at their founder Qutb.

He was a complete loser with the female persuasion. He formed his fanatical Mohammedism while a student in the U.S. in the late 1940's. If he had looked like Omar Sharif, he'd have had better luck with the babes, and maybe we wouldn't have fanatical Islam at our throats.

The Muslims we have trouble with are NOT the Camel-riding, tent-sleeping, goat-herding peasants. Those Muslims just want to get through the day and maybe try to follow the Five Pillars of Islam.

No, the Muzzies that cause the most trouble are the ones who've been thoroughly westernized, have seen our movies, listened to our music, ate our food, and maybe even know our slang. These Muslims are unhappy because they have a God-shaped hole in their hearts, and so they try to fill it with what they think is "Spirituality", by following Marduk the Moon God, and the teachings of their pedophile prophet. Most of these Muslims aren't very good looking, strike out with women, and probably smell. Because of their lack of God, and their inability to find a decent-looking woman, most turn to Radical Islam to get back at the rest of us who have girlfriends/wives.

It's understandable how lust-filled they get when they see a woman who's not in a burlap burkha. It triggers unfulfilled desires that would drive a man into a homicidal rage. The only solution is to convert Muslims to Christianity, so they can get a healthy view of women and maybe they can find one to settle down with and live their lives in peace.

This is getting out of hand. Talk about the elephant in the living room. We have a military that harbors the enemy for fear of being called names.

The attitude shown is endangering the security of the country. Off the record interviews have also shown there WERE other officers who saw the signs- but didn’t report them for fear of being called on the carpet.

“We have a military that harbors the enemy for fear of being called names.”

Except they might have been able to do something about it if the intelligence agencies had told the Army Hasan was trying to hook up with Al Qaeda. If they knew and if they didn’t report it. Which they might not have because as of January 20 we’re not fighting the War on Terror anymore.

Huh? Bush hasn’t been President since January 20 and is hardly in a position to do something about it sitting at home in Dallas. The Obama people have had plenty of time since taking over to “connect the dots” and take appropriate action. And after all that’s what we were promised, that the Obama administration would be wiser and smarter and do everything better than Bush.

No, the shooting was not the goal all along. If he had been low level military maybe, but not as a Major and a psychiatrist.

How much information did he pass along from distressed servicemen and women? He had access to the transition team information. What was his security clearance level?

We were all creeped out by 0bama’s approach to the press conference. I mean it has been all the talk the past few days...how odd, how weird, how quirky. We know they masquerade as bumbling idiots, but if we haven't learned anything in the past 10 months, the administration is not anything it appears to be.

If Hitler had been as clever as Mohammed, he would have proclaimed Nazism to be a new religion.

Then PC-uber-alles dolts would demand that Nazi SS “priests” should be allowed to join the US Army, even as they preached the slaughter of non-Nazis.

And when these Nazi SS “priests” massacred Americans, these PC dolts would worry more about a potential backlash against “moderate Nazis” than the safety of Americans.

PC Kills.

Apparently Hasan was influenced by the teachings of this Imam Awlaki at the Falls Church Mosque. The guy preached hatred against Americans and Christians’ .

It’s a good thing that Barry O wasn’t influenced by the anti-American and racist teachings and rants of Reverend Wright, who he worshipped with for over 20 years. Just think what that would lead to if you put a lunatic in the White House with access to the largest amount of Nuclear armaments on earth. OK…. Stop thinking about that.

I myself would not be surprised about Major Hasan's effort to contact international jihadi groups, or perhaps even become a sleeper cell member. What I personally want to know is, did he also have any kind of ties to C.A.I.R. in the D.C. area? Because almost as soon as he squeezed off those rounds down there in Texas, C.A.I.R. was mysteriously all over the airways condemning this guy, and de-coupling him from Greater Islam-at-large. That does not mean they sent him on such a mission, but that they may have known of his dangerous Salafist words and ways in the Washington, D.C. area in advance--and did nothing.

Methinks, just as a rat I smell, that somebody perhaps knows him from the D.C. area, and either the two mosques in Maryland and Virginia, or through the HSPI think-tank at George Washington University which also no doubt had Islamist in policy positions involved. I also do not trust the current US Government/Administration at senior levels, nor high officialdom in the Pentagon, to let much of this out if it does show up, therefore the burden is on many of us to uncover what we can from open sources and post here to FR and elsewhere.

There is BS spin I smell, and I think Lieberman and his staff also have been getting stuff backchanneled to them by whistleblowers who know this Hasan's true story, but are afraid of their government or military positions due to political correctness the had to go along with. Just my take.

This is going to get a lot more interesting, as it shifts way from the PTSD and Discriminated Minority cop-out the official MSM is feeding us and thinking we are foolish enough to buy.

American military personnel are dead, or wounded within the borders of our Nation.

Our Federal Government is one BIG screwup after another, and the Federal Government demands to screwup even more.

Take away the Leftist’s unconstitutional accumulation of power within the Federal Government. Return the Federal Government to the extent of authority outlined by the Constitution, and throw everything else at the States to dispose of at their will.

A smaller Fed should be a more efficient Fed, and the military personnel the Fed is responsible for should not die due incompetence of Political orgy.

I think our out of control legal system is partly to blame. Political correctness is a response to the fear of lawsuits. Why do the right thing when you might get sued to death? Everyone wanted Hasan be somebody else's problem.

The tort bar is also a root cause of the health care debacle. Once they established a ''right'' to health care, free riders overloaded the system.
