Pelosi has the votes
The Politico ^ | November 7, 2009 | Ben Smith

Posted on 11/07/2009 6:23:21 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

POLITICO reports:

Hours before an expected vote on a sweeping health care bill, House Democrats believe they've secured the 218 votes they need to approve the bill, several party insiders said.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took to the House floor about 6:30 p.m. to say, “Today we will pass the Affordable Health Care for America Act.. . .We will make history. We will also make progress for America's working families."

Thirty-two Democrats have publicly declared their opposition to the bill, giving party leaders the narrowest possible margin to push the bill across the finish line. But numerous sources said Democrats believe they do have the votes after a day of intense lobbying of wavering Democrats.

Cao in LA is wavering, this will give Obama the “bipartisan” cover he is looking for. Need to keep the pressure on him.

If she had the votes, it would have already passed.

Bet me a burger it does not come to a vote at all. I’ll bet you an adult beverage of your choice that we wake up tomorrow morning and they will still be talking about having enough votes.

Politico is trying to demoralize us so we stop calling, emailing and faxing. Remember, Politico has a bunch of ex-Washington Post staff.

Let this energize us to contact our reps all the more.

Pelosi, et al never give up. Why should WE when we are RIGHT!?

You’re government doesn’t seem to represent you. It represents the electoral interests of members of Congress. Which aren’t necessarily yours.

With this, and all the drivel about how Major Hasan isn’t a jihadi, I’ve about had it.

I just got off the phone from one of my best friends...he said that he was going to have faith that enough Americans in Congress would see through this Healthcare Bill and vote to protect our freedoms. God, I hope he is right.

Agreed.

If they had the votes they would not be there on a Sat. This is a high-pressure tactic to force Uncommitted Dems along.

Can’t take your vote - I agree. This doesn’t come up for a vote. It gets pulled.

Yet these things always have a way of miraculously getting past the insurmountable roadblock, don't they?

after a day of intense lobbying of wavering Democrats.

On a fundamental issue about the role of government you have representatives who can be persuaded one way or the other, or bought???? Geeez. You would think a Congressman can decided for himself. But I guess I expect too much out of them. At least in one way I repect Pelosi and her ilk. They have a certain viewpoint and are open about it and follow through.

Yes they do. My guy lost and the other guy rode in on obama's coat tails. Fortunately, if initial reports are true and Mad madam Pelousy hasn't gotten to him yet, he will vote against this madness.

What I hope voters remember is that Congressional votes also have consequences. Reps need to fear their constituents more than they fear some SanFranNan lunatic. Perhaps they'll learn that long before the next election, but definitely then.

If they don’t pass it today, they’ll pass it tomorrow, or the day after, etc etc.

They’re going to get SOMETHING passed just so they can stand back and say WE DID IT to their base.

The economy will take another huge hit because of it, but the dims are less concerned about the damage they’ll do as opposed to satisfying the kook fringe of their party.

I just heard a few minutes ago no Republican will vote to pass this. They have lost one vote but that is from the CD-23 election where the Dem Owens promised to oppose Obamacare but within an hour after being sworn in he was on Pelosi’s teams.

We need to use him as an example of a Democrat who says one thing in the campaign and immediately after being sworn in follows the Pelosi progressive line.

Yes, and there are a LOT of “undecided” who are in red districts. But one thought is that there is a lot of negotiating as to who “gets” to vote no and who has to fall on the sword-—but that Pelosi has the votes.

We could do that, but the people of NY would forget by the time they go to the polls. The problem is the people. Walt Kelley said so.

Americans in Congress and non-Americans in the white hut pass politically correct bills, appoint corrupt judges, lie, steal, defraud, get payoffs by the Saudis which led to the mass murder of 14 Americans the other day by an agent for Islam and probably the Saudis.

Hopefully enough Americans in Congress will stop this. Thank Newt for us losing NY-23. Doug Hoffman would not have voted for this.
