A 5.7-millimeter pistol used in the Fort Hood shooting was purchased legally by suspect Nidal Hasan at a Texas gun shop

It is probable that many of the victims survived due to him using a 5.7mm firearm. The number of deaths would likely have been higher if he had used a gun which fired the far more common 9mm, 40s&w, or 45acp jacketed hollowpoints.

Agreed. When I had heard that the cop who stopped him was wounded with a shot through both legs, I assumed 9mm solid (FMJ). This poodle shooter round makes more sense.

If he’d been shooting any of the rounds you mention, there’d have been more fatalities.
