AP Sources: 1 rampage gun purchased legally By LARA JAKES and DEVLIN BARRETT (AP) – 20 minutes ago
WASHINGTON — A 5.7-millimeter pistol used in the Fort Hood shooting was purchased legally by suspect Nidal Hasan at a Texas gun shop, law enforcement officials said Friday.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case.
Records indicate Hasan bought the FN 5.7 at store called "Guns Galore" in Killeen, Texas, well before the attack that left 13 people dead, one of the officials said. The pistol has been dubbed a "cop killer" by those who have tried to stop its use.
The most powerful type of ammunition for the gun is available only to law enforcement and military personnel. Gun control advocates call it a "cop killer" weapon because that ammo can pierce bulletproof vests, and its use by Mexican drug cartels worries police.
It is not clear what kind of ammunition was used in the Fort Hood attack. One official said the store records do not indicate Hasan purchased any ammo when he bought the gun.

I’ve seen about a dozen of them at the gun range and fired them a bunch of times. No big deal.
Wrong! I own both the pistol and the semi-auto FN PS90. Both can be had by LAW ABIDING CITIZENS.
Perhaps these brain-trusts can explain to us what single gun isn’t capable of being a cop killer. Even an air gun if used improperly can kill a police officer.

I believe a steel-core 7.62x25mm FMJ will penetrate out of a TT33/CZ52 just as well as a 5.7 out of a FN5.7.....AND FOR ALOT LESS!

Maybe it would help the AP if when reposted, this article should be rewritten to call them “Muslim ‘cop killer’ bullets”.
But what is a “Muslim ‘cop killer’ bullet?”, you might ask. Simple. It is an *ordinary* bullet, that when fired from a gun by a Muslim, is *magically* enhanced by Islam to be able to kill police officers.
The only drawback to this idea is that writers for the AP are such a dense lot that they would probably take it seriously.

It is probable that many of the victims survived due to him using a 5.7mm firearm. The number of deaths would likely have been higher if he had used a gun which fired the far more common 9mm, 40s&w, or 45acp jacketed hollowpoints.

Words are used like shootings , killings , ( couched in terms as if the victims could shoot back.)
This happened at a med facility where there was a long cue for flu shots and other medical processing.The perpetrator calmly got to his feet , reached into his jacket, drew two pistols and calmly started walking down the rows of people , pointing his weapons and shooting them calmly, point blank, in cold blood.
This was not “shootings” This was not “killings.” This was genocidal execution. These human beings were dispatched as if they were animals.One woman was 6 months pregnant.

The ‘intellects’ so easily neglect the critical component that resulted in the assassinations - desire. If not in Ft. Hood, then quite possibly Hasan’s needs would have been satisfied overseas with potentially greater fatalities.

According to Gun Digest the 5.7 is less powerful and has less stopping power than a 9MM.

Someone told me recently that he knew a teenage boy who killed a large feral hog. He was sitting on a deer stand when the hog walked under it and he shot him in the forehead...with a pellet rifle!

Depending on where they were hit, one soldier was on TV today and said that he was not actually hit, he had a round in his boot. Even a fifty caliber won’t kill anyone if it only hits a finger.
