It’s two headlines in one and makes perfect sense if you insert a period after “transition”.
Given the unforgiving nature of thread posting programs, it probably should have had punctuation to divide the two parts for clarity:

I half-joked in one of the unemployment threads that Obama had hired this guy to do this to take the country's mind off of the unemployment rate (which is now 10.2%). Now, I wonder if the joke wasn't quite as far from the truth.
