Suspect in Fort Hood shootings attended mosque in Silver Spring

The Muslim Community Center in Silver Spring was empty Thursday night, but inside, the phone didn't stop ringing. Members of the mosque where Maj. Nidal M. Hasan had been a regular attendee and members of the media wanted to know about the place where the suspect in the shootings at Fort Hood, Tex., had prayed seven days a week, often in his Army fatigues.

Arshad Qureshi, chairman of the center's board of trustees, said he tried to answer every call to convey the message that the center stands for peace.

"We want to show there is a tiny portion of people who do these things, yet they get all the press. But our centers do many, many other things," Qureshi said. "We distribute food for the needy, contribute disaster relief and help the community."

(snip)

On Thursday night, just before the day's last call to prayer, the shooting was on the minds of many attendees, said the center's Imam, Mohamed Abdullahi.

"The brothers here have seen [Hasan's] face on the news, and they're all talking about him, trying to figure this out," Abdullahi said.

Members said Hasan had attended the Muslim Community Center for about five years before moving out of the area. He attended frequently for daily prayers but participated in almost none of the center's other activities or festivities.

"I can't say that people knew him very well, other than attending prayers," Qureshi said. "He was a very quiet and private person."

Here’s a novel idea. Put together a march to protest the jihadis in your own faith and demonstrate your loyalty to this country.

I may be wrong, but “moderate” muslims cannot or will not even stand up to the radicals here in this country, much less in Islamic countries. Wonder why???

Of course, because we know it's the religion of peace...

You are correct that “moderate” mohammedans will not stand up to the radicals among them.

To answer your question “why”, it’s for the same reason that the German people who weren’t Nazis did nothing to stop the Nazis. It’s the same reason that Russians today pine for the days of Josef Stalin.

The reason is National Pride, and for the mohammedans, that nation is the “ummah”, the “caliphate”.

They distribute food for the needy. Yep. Along with Korans, of course. These fine upstanding muslims are real good at doing their dawah.

“They’re sad in public, high-fiving in private.”

Yep. We all got a whiff of that a few years ago.

I’m sorry, God forgive me, but I cannot trust any of them.

Gee, I wonder how Barry is going to spin this so we can all feel better about turning our country over to terrorists?

Sure, we are all to believe that no Muslim heard him make a single threat of violence, while his fellow soldiers and the FBI were getting alarmed about his remarks and his Internet threats. Muslims are deaf, dumb and blind because it is convenient. And we are told to be deaf, dumb and blind to the obvious. Political correctness kills people-and freedom.

Prior to 9/11 I had a muslim co-worker who went to mosque every Friday during lunch.

Always a fan of exoticism, I asked that I might go with him.

His reply was usually one variation or another of, “This is not a good week, but soon.”

I finally stopped asking, and he eventually left the company.

I’ve since learned why.

Since lying to infidels is an islamic virtue, I don’t think God expects you to trust them.

No, I did...it’s just so appropriate, that it deserves being said twice.

That’s that part of Maryland that “isn’t Maryland.” Just like Capital Heights.
