Army Shooting Suspect Was Heading to Iraq
Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan was believed to be a psychiatrist
WASHINGTON - The man identified as the shooting suspect at Fort Hood was an Army psychiatrist preparing to deploy to Iraq.
NBC News Pete Williams reported that U.S. officials identified the gunman as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who had been promoted to major in May. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R-Texas, said military officials told her that the gunman, who was 39 or 40, was about to be deployed to Iraq and was upset about it.
NBC News' Robert Windrem said Hasan specialized in traumatic stress. A U.S. military official said Hasan had orders to deploy to Iraq on Nov. 28.
It was not known whether he was treating people at the base. NBC News said he had been at the base since July.
Hasan was born in Virginia, where he graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in biochemistry. He later attended U.S. military medical school, where he specialized in psychiatry.
The gunman was shot to death on the base after 11 people were killed and 31 wounded.
Officials says it was not clear what Hasan's religion was, but investigators are trying to determine if Hasan was his birth name or if he may have changed his name and converted to the Islamic faith at some point.

We are our own worst enemy!
Profile the muslims and take steps to protect our forces from them.
As Dr. Phil would say:
“How’s that working for ya?”
Drudge has a picture of him. Why do they think he is a convert? He went to medical school in Damascus (which is in Syria, unless they mean Damascus, VA).
I heard he is a life long Muslim, not newly convert.
The "convert" was initially reported, but ABC - for one - has walked that back. They reported this evening that they believe he did indeed go to medical school in Damascus and was born in Jordan. Brian Ross commented that he was probably a life-long Muzzie.
Any stats available on the total number of multiple killing incidents by Muslims, as compared to non-Muslims in recent years?
Lets remember some prominent Muslims, shall we?

If he was treating others on Ft. Hood for traumatic stress it might explain the widely reported high suicide rate.
Shep keeps insisting he was a convert but he looks like he’s from the ME.
Unfortunately you’re making an excellent point.
Starting to spin the story.
Just another case of Sudden Jihad Syndrome. Can’t be terrorism, if he doesn’t have Osama’s card in his wallet.
I'm pi$$ed , I don't want to go, even though I joined the military on my own volition, so I'm going out and killing 11 people and wounding 31?
I don't believe it for a New York minute!
I’ve heard more lies today than I would hear in a week at a Democratic National Convention.
Conjecture at best. Little is know about Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan. The endless hypothetical’s are like Katrina, making a clear understanding impossible in the days ahead. America is kind to her enemies and like it or not, Islam is an enemy to us and to clear thinking Muslims in the USA...look at poor England.
I heard he is from Syria.
